    Default Finally finished HL2

Ok... I'm ready for Half Life 3, lmao!

I was a little disappointed how the story just like... well... I don't want to give away any spoilers for those of you who haven't finished it yet... but... those of you who have, do you agree that the ending is a bit disappointing? I don't fully understand it... but it does leave it wide open for Half Life 3...

If you can explain to me what the ending means, please PM me and do so, lol.

Yeah, the whole storyline wa a bit etchy...didnt make complete sense and all. Plus, the game was real short. Still, a totally awesome game, alot more satisfying than Doom 3 was, thats for sure.

But, the game was completely redone in a little matter of time.

When the Source leak happened Valve announced that they were starting over and indeed they did. I have seen the leaked beta and there are quite a few completed levels (not just demonstration maps) that arent even in the game. There are also alot of weapons and more importantly characters that didnt make it into the game. In fact, there are ALOT of characters that werent in the game such as the Combine assasain and this big monster thing, and they all looked way to damn good to just be "concept" characters. I feel that if Valve hadnt started over we wouldve had a MUCH better and more importantly, longer game. I mean, some of the characters and guns (such as the wielding gun that allowed you to attached metal objects to other metal objects, like metal sheets to the dune buggy to act as metal armor) and even this cool map that took place on this big ice breaker ship arent even in the game. HL2 turned out awesome, but it couldve been alot better Im predicting had they not started over.

O, and to answer you question, there is going to be a HL3, Gabe Newell even said so himself, so HL3 picks up were HL2 ended I guess. Still, it just sucks that Valve took so much out of the Source leak.

lmao, good one m8! Well, Im guessing that if they use the Source engine again, it probably wont take as long, if they are making a new engine, then yeah, 2025 sounds about right.

I dunno if reusing the Source engine would be a good idea... by the time we ever see a HL3 there will be much better engines out there with more realistic physics and support for x86-64 (I know Intel's 64-bit technology isn't called x86-64 but I refuse to aknowledge what they're doing by a different name, as if it's unique).
Sure they could pretty up the Source engine by using bigger textures and adding buttloads of new pixel shaders, but I think if they were to use a game engine 3-4 years old it would most definately show. I think Valve is more concerned about being cutting edge than getting HL3 to us quickly.

Just finished HL2 myself this weekend.... WOW.. that's 2 consecutive FPS games I finished (the other being Doom 3).... There is a trend developing here LOL.... hehehe and not even using cheats or walkthru's...

Anyway, this game kicked some serious butt if you ask me. I'm starting to enjoy FPS games although I'm actually more a RPG/RTS player.

I had no problems with the end... just makes you wish for more and it gives an opening for that.

The new games are not worth the money IMO. I finished DoomIII in 3 days and HL2 in 3 days also. The developers are doing an awsome job creating the story line and graphics/physics engines, but they are not making the games last.

I partially agree with you but there should be some replay value playing on other levels, using different weapons, using future mods, etc... Really, I'm not sure what they could have done to make it "lasting"....

They allready added a deatchmatch feature and I'm sure there will be others... there have to be given the fact that it will probably take them another decade to release HL3.

I very much enjoyed playing it.... took me a couple of weeks on and off and what kind of amusement can you get for € 60,= that lastst that long....

3 days... that is pretty fast... I guess they don't create the games for FPS aces who finish the games on non-stop sessions in 1 or 2 days. They create them for the general gamer which will have a lot more fun playing it...

If I ever do pick it up (& I want to so badly) then it might be better to wait until the typical "platinum" version is released with the usuall all new levels or expansion pack...

It would make sense to release let's say new levels or an expansion pack using teh same engine. It will be quicker to get the product out the door & we all know how miffed folks were about waiting, and waiting, and waiting for HL2 release. If they were smart they will release this shortly but they have missed the x-mas window for any expansion packs by releasing HL2 too late. With teh late release they might get more sales of HL2 though for x-mas.

Anyways, still steamed at the whole Steam fiasco. I wonder how well the sales of HL2 are compared to D3?

I think the steam fiasco hurt them bigtime and to be honest they deserve it.... They gave it zero thought that is for sure.

They better find other ways for distributing their add-ons (like the deathmatch thing) because otherwise they will be missing a lot of potential.

Yeah, from the in game video clips I have seen it is a totally awesome . I am itching to get it but can't live with the Steam business (at least not with a 56K ). I am looking into DSL to see if they have "run the cable" to where I live . Anyone do this for a living and maybe run one my way?

    Cheers
