    I know, I know.....

Actually I did look for your OCZ Plat Server Ram. That stuff is hard to find at a decent price.

And I just ordered last night, OCZ600ADJ PowerStream SLi from Monarch

Still keeping the dual PIII for folding?

Ryder - do you know when will the new 600 version hit the streets up here?

    Cheers

Ya, It will get shut down for a few days, wipe and reformat but thats all. Poor thing, it's been folding since it was built.

I must admit that this configuration leaves me very puzzled.

Care to share the main task for this new box? I am sort of confuse why one would go with ECC memory, mind you I suspect that is processor bound, hence how does this impact performance if, and I do say if this rig is primarely gaming rig?

If gaming rig, why the choice of xeon? Not trying to bash Intel here , just trying to compute this configuration....

Ya, no problem. This rig will be used for a myriad of different things, for now just the ordinary day to day tasks, a few games, and multimedia stuff. In the future if all goes as planned, then I will add computer aided design, and will probably be hooked up to a bench top milling machine. The ECC RAM is required by the motherboard and lends a tad bit of stability. My current PIII system is using ECC RAM and is probably the most stable computer in the house. I've not had a BSOD or had to reload the OS (XP Pro) for over two years.

Why Intel? Well I did look into a dual core dual opteron setup but that would have added $1600 just for the processors to the total price. The price to performance ratio was just not worth it.

And last but not least, I've always owned strange setups. Ya, I know I could have gone several different routes, but what I've picked out should do the job nicely.

Oh, CAD and milling machine....umm.....I can already see meself with one off those, and with the patience and talent I got. I'd design a GPU waterblock, process and mill it, and off course end up with an 18 pounds copper block as a counter balancing weight for my Tractor !

ECC = stability, well got to admit that my dually compaq server as you refresh my memory is darn stable, actually forgot I had that running somewhere in the house, maybe I should go check and say hello to it, must fell lonely where ever it is.

    Hi EveryBody ("Hi Dr.raf")

My name is rafiKi and I am an Upgradaholic. My last PC lasted me 13 months and I had to upgrade 3 months ago to an A64 San Diego. I bought a whole new rig from scratch.

3 weeks later I upgraded the 1gb of OCZ ram to 1gb of OCZ ram... (I know, I know)...

1 week later I upgraded the stock cooler to a Vapochill Micro Extreme...

2 weeks later I upgraded the 7.1 on board audio (Karajan - Realtek) to 7.1 Audio (creative Audigy ZS 2) Again... I know, I know...

    3 weeks later I bought a second 6800-Ultra and SLi'd it...

2 weeks later I added a UV light mod...

This week I am looking at cutting a hole in the side of my LanBoy transparant window and adding another 120mm fan...

I've also set the money aside next week for a second WD Raptor 10,000rpm 74gb HD so that I can RAID 0 them...

    HELP ME!!! :stop:

(Keri - I collided with one of those Hummers while riding my Kawasaki Ninja 600cc Supersports motorbike... it hurt... the Hummer didnt even stop, I dont think he noticed!.. Oh... and DOes upgrading motorbikes count?... I've had this for 13 months... i'm about to get the Ninja 900cc... then add an Aquapovic rull race system exhaust... then add an advanced ignition timer... then add a Stage one Dynojet kit... and a Steering dampener... may whichever god you believe in help me... Mine is the God of Upgrades - he'll be no use!)

    Dear rafiKi,

Indeed it is time for you to join this group and share with us your terrible addiction. We shall as a team, attempt to help you control the expensive urges that you have, and hopefully help you maintain a balance budget.

I would for a start suggest, putting your wonderfull rig and it's ability to perform on some constructive tasks.

As such, why not buy some lottery tickets, but only after the rig as done the computational analysis and provided the most likely winning number. Buy the lottery ticket, cash in on the money and:

Go buy 2 more raptors, a triple pump water cooling setup for the gpu, a cascade for the cpu, upgrade the motherboard to SLIX16, and since the mobe got to come out replace the 3700 with an FX 57, a 7 for a 7?

Lastly do listen to Dr. BB_One, Hummer versus Ninja 900cc, Hummer will always win! So stear clear of Hummers and the likes if you plan on enjoying the piece parts mentionned above. :deviltail

LMAO I like your style - The PC WILL be Raided (I've planned it - surely it would do my therapy more harm than good if I didnt go through with my plans?...) and it WILL have the extra side 120mm fan (heat has almost become an issue).

I was offered the FX57 last month, I managed to dodge that bullett... but only through fear of the girlfriend witholding privilages... Unfortunately it looks like I will no longer have a girlfriend... Hello FX57?

    Then 2gb Ram me...

    Then X-Fi Fatal1ty me...

My god - someone tie me down.

And so what you're saying is, when the time comes me and the 900cc be able to dodge hummers? (No, what i'm saying is - when the time comes, you won't have to) MatriX me.

~scrambles off to take his medication~
