    Default ViewSonic FuHzion X2265wm 120hz 22"

Well, I am about to (hopefully) put to rest my VERY good vx922 (4:3, 19") monitor, in favor of a WS monitor.
I am working from home a lot more recently, and a 4:3 aspect monitor just doesnt cut it (especially when I have vmware, outlook, web browser, and IM client all vying for space).

The monitor is also on a KVM switch, which runs my wifes computer and my win98 game machine (that is usually in 800x600).

So, I am hoping that this new monitor will work as my gaming monitor (and be a bit smoother in quake 3, and not tear in other games when vsync is off), and my current monitor will go to the kvm (since it can do non-native res without any problems).

So, look for an upcoming mini-review of this monitor.

I thought I got a bad one, but it was my bad.
I plugged it into the 8800gt (phys-x) instead of the GTX280.

Anyway, a quick 4 hour preview of this thing (I will be doing a review later, as I want to get to know the monitor more first):

Almost ALL my games are better for having this monitor.
    Here are the resaons:

    1. I dont know whats up with my old monitor, but this one actually shows details a heckuva lot better than the ben-q does.
    2. Mouse speed is SO much better. It doesnt seem stuck on some abysmally low setting (but, I am used to those types of settings now, poop).
    3. In Serious Sam HD, I can actually move out of the way of kleers and werebulls!!!!! 60hz seems to affect movement as well as mouse speed.
    4. Very little tearing now (although there seems to be a little bit, but only in the middle of the screen, and not like in 2-3 places like usual. This could be game dependent, and only a result of going over 120 fps/
    5. Borderlands LOVES this monitor! Everything is so much smoother now. Using scope is instantaneous, and no lag in it whatsoever. Along with the fov hack, I love BL all over again.

Here are some of the not so goods, and the horrendous parts:
    1. Open-GL will NOT work. Any game using it wont even launch. So much for quake 3.
    2. Not all games benefit from this monitor. Those that have a cap on fps (like 40, or 60), there is absolutely no benefit whatsoever.
    3. This thing is BRIGHT. And I mean HURT your eyes bright!! See next con.
    4. No osd settings. It has brightness settings, but they dont seem to work. Nvidia control panel can get it to where I like it, but it has issues: Some games go almost black if you set the brightness down. See next con.
    5. Some games seem to be either brighter or darker than what I am used to with the other monitor. Dont know how this can be (its an oxy-moron), but it is.
    6. Backlight bleed-o-rama. I thought the ben-q was bad. Sheesh. This doesnt bother me much though, since I game or web browse only from this machine.
    7. Blacks suck, they all blend together. The ben-q was MILES ahead of this on dark colors.

    Ok.
So, that is all I am going to say about it until I get used to it (unless you ask questions before I do the review).

I've got a 27" LG that was bright like that out of the box.
You turn the brightness down & the next thing it's too dark.
So for the 1st time ever, I installed the drivers for a monitor.
Now it auto adjusts the brightness to the ambeint light.

    How does it auto adjust?
Do I turn it down to what I want it to be at normally, and when I play a game it will adjust up?

    I dont get it.

But, I checked their website, and they do have an xp x64 driver!

The disk it came with crashed in windows, and everything I read said it was vista only (I figured vista win 7, but no xp).
    So, installed it.
    Now what?
    :P

The LG came with a program called forteManager to adjust everything.
Somewhere in there there is an auto brightness option.
It also has a gaming mode, movie mode, internet mode, personal mode, & a sh!t load of other things I'll never use.

Yeah, there is nothing but drivers for this monitor.

Also, installing the drivers gave even better visuals, but seems to have negated the 120hz aspect of the monitor?

Sounds like a nice monitor (no support for XP )

My samsung 2343 was bright right out of the box too...almost retina searing...but crisp and clean. Not 120 but 1080p...need a blu-ray drive to try it.

Are there settings where you can change to the 120?

Well, it is a pretty nice monitor so far.

But no, no settings other than Nvidia settings (but it has the 60, 100, 110, ands 120hz settings).

    Everything is really sharp also.
But I notice more jaggies than on the Ben-q (in games).

    Hooo-boy.
Borderlands with bsmoothframerate=false is SO great.
    No more micro-stutter now !!!!!!
    Woohoo!!
Getting upwards of 101 fps now, instead of being capped at 62.

    _NITE_
/my games/borderlands/config/willowgames folder under my documents, open willowengine.ini and change bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE to FALSE and save.
