Yep, you could have used XP mode for the drivers.

But, as you already know (this is for everyone else's benefit) you cannot use XP mode to play games.

M$ only wants you doing that on the Xbox360.
    :P

Hey all, I've been MIA for a bit...

I'm looking at getting Win 7 pro and was wondering if anyone had tried the OEM version? It looks much more attractive than paying $300!

If you arent going to be changing the mobo and hardware for a while,
    i say go for it.

If you may be changing soon, get the retail version.

The oem is only good for 1 machine.

    back.

The oem is only good for 1 machine.
I dont believe that fer 1 sec....
yes , ive seen that statment be implied but i have not seen that in any officail MS writing . Nor do i beilieve MS has the right to say you can not use a OS lic. you paid for. just not on muiltible pc's as it is only 1 lic. in the past OEM as far as i no, has had limited 1 yr suport Where retail has i think has 3 yrs . I have never bought a retail version ... nor will i . If MS denied me activation ,when i did not have the OS installed on a second pc i would raise holy u no what ! They would loose a beta tester and a customer . (oow i started to rant )
I believe it would be same as alway , your declined activation , you call MS , they ask you a few question like why are you reinstalling the OS , you tell them mobo or HD bit the dust so you replaced it . and they give you a activation code ....

Now to your question NIN I have installed Win 7 ult 64 bit OEM on 5 or 6 pc's including 1 of my own and beta tested it from the start . Best MS OS ive ever used . Ive only installed 1 retail copy for a customer and only dif i seen was the packaging .
Only problem ive seen with Win 7 (OEM or Retail) is few are having problems with network and internet conectivity , but thats been few and far between and seems to be limited to (but not large amounts of) those that are upgrading from Vista and using wireless N , but again it dose not seem to be a comon problem and N is still in Draft ......

=) Hi Johnny, Pete, Dave, and the rest of the crew.

Yes, it is me. I'm coming out of hiding a bit.

I ended up buying an OEM copy of Win 7 professional 64 bit. Should be installing it within the next few days. Hopefully it all goes smoothly.

Wearing a good disguise I hope?

Win7 should be an easy go George, I have one issue with my 27" Samsung 275T monitor where I can't set it at 60MHz though. Win7 only allows it to set to 59MHz which messes up the odd game and I can't turn off scaling as well. Stupid thing works fine in Vista but Win7 rounds down to 59MHz instead of up to 60MHz for any screen that is actually running at a fraction, eg: 59.91MHz will read as only capable of 59MHz in Win7.

Didn't happen with Vista, and the color controls built into this monitor are insane, I bought my boys the first 275 and got mine after that. It is an excellent monitor which has been F'd up by MS. I can set a custom resolution with Nvidia Control Panel and get my 60Hz that way but the scaling still won't work unless I choose a lower resolution than 1920 X 1200.

Windows 7 is definitly way over hyped. Personally, i have used it for awhile, and i don't like it much. It is better than vista. But i still prefer XP over any other windows OS. However, Linux is the way to go. I also dual boot linux with windows. I don't use ubuntu, but i do use mandriva, and am planning to use gentoo. So personally, if i were you, i would downgrade to XP
