Awesome Steve!!!What a great photo....
It's nice to see all you guys getting into this....
I haven't developed my own stuff since school, which was......a long time ago.I did all B&W back then. Many times I've wanted to make my own darkroom for B&W, but I have absolutely no room in the house...

Nice JoeMan....![]()
How was that done joe? Is this an infrared shot or just mucking about with camera settings?
Interesting shot.
It's a close-up taken with my just over 1mp digital that's built in to my Sony TRV-830 Digital8 video camera. The built in digital camera sucks for anything other than close-ups (almost macro as the minimum focal length is way short) or anything farther away than about 10ft. for normal pics.
Anyway, I shot the pic of the A64 in the socket, then last night I cropped it in Photoshop and just started tweaking the hell out of it - using RGB color levels, contrast, brightness, saturation, etc. settings amongst other things. I was just having fun experimenting - then when I got the Grateful Dead look - I went back and zoomed in to like 400% or something and used magic wand to hi-lite just each individual letter and I crushed the black levels and brightness on each letter one at a time. That process helped greatly in clarifying each letter/word, but it didn't make each letter/word stand out as much as I'd have liked, but overall you can tell what it is so I'm happy.
I've been criticized in the past for being too exacting in my photography tweaking - in other words people have told me to just leave things alone after a certain point because vagueness sometimes is better than preciseness in artistic mediums. I don't agree or disagree with them, because I take the subjective artist standpoint: it's done when I say it's done (kind of like they said about the DooM3 release date).
You can debate that point of vagueness versus detail in looking at various artists out there. Picasso and Dali are fine examples of vagueness but artists like Constable Michalangelo are excellent examples of detail. I would say both are excellent examples of art on the edges.
Personal tastes and preferences as well as what you are trying to get out of the audience. Do you want to define something for them to see what you want them to see or make it vague for them to determien what they will.
My $0.02
(chaulk this up to my fine arts background :shh: )
Excellent points, and worth more than $0.02 mind you!
I agree Snafu...After all, you don't need to have a degree in art to like it, it's all about what moves you. I do have a degree in art, and yet my personal tastes are just as varied as the next guy....
