This shot with Canon AE-1 using Kodak Tri-X 400. I'm pretty sure I had my polarizer on, which was good for reducing glare and let me open up a couple more stops to get the depth of field.

This is my nephew Drue. He was so proud of losing that tooth. My girls are playing in the background.

Pentax K1000 using ILFORD HP5. It was a stop motion assignment for school. Not a very fast film at all, HP5 (it's 400 speed). I shot almost two rolls of 36 trying to get the golf ball with no blur - at 1000 shutter speed.

The 50% reduction, and change over from BMP to .jpg made some weird textured looking lines/patterns in the one posted here.

Here's one I took at a jousting tournament at Warwick Castle this summer. I like it because it's only the horse's mane that shows the motion...

    hi guys...

pic taken in a small town outside of Cuzco, Peru a couple years ago. Nikon F90, 28-70mm Nikon lens, forget the f-stop and shutter speed and film used (could conceivably dig up that info, but too lazy). need to crop it a little, but this is the entire frame. it's a scan of a print (not negative) done on an HP ScanJet 5470C at i dunno what DPI.

    oops. Okay, they're .jpg's now.

Nice shot DrPino. Looks like a National Geographic photo.

I think one reason (of many) that I lust after that EOS 20D is because of the countless hours I have spent clone tooling dust specs off my neg. scans. No matter how good I cleaned everything, I'd still get hundreds of specs to clean up. Tedious as hell, but worth every minute in the end.

thanks joeMan ....i wish i could get a job with Nat Geo - nothing like getting paid to travel to the coolest places on earth and take photos

i agree about the move to digital...i have thousands of negs and slides that suffer from the dust issues...it's even worse since i don't have a dedicated neg scanner but an adapter for a flatbed

NG has been a dream of mine since I saw my first copy when I was a kid. Fat chance tho, unless I suddenly have loads of time to devote to it.... I read somewhere that NG photographers take an average of 45,000 shots per article.... Betcha those folks are happy with today's digital cameras.....

NG has been my dream as well but like you mentioned, it takes A LOT of time and is such a competitive field/job. i wouldn't be surprised at the amount of shots they take...that's one thing i've learned over time is in order to get good photos, you NEED to take a ton of shots. on a trip to S.America i used nearly 40 rolls of film (both B&W and color) and hand-picked maybe 50 shots that i deemed good. digital is a godsend for these guys, no doubt.

btw, i love all your shots Mikki...excellent work.

btw #2, i love all your shots too joeMan...love the fact you still work with Tri-X, Ilford and Neopan. i learned on those films and still think they are fantastic to work with...especially the ranges of the different speeds when it comes to grain, pushing, and contrast. i've been wanting to set up my own B&W darkroom just so i can continue working with those films and papers...just don't have room in my apt for it.

Ya Mikki, nice work for sure. The Tower Bridge in London I like very much.

Developing my own film is really a lot of fun. I do it in a little 2 roll 35mm tank, then hang the negs up in the house here to dry. My friend Floyd owns his own media firm, (EMRL Media ) and he lets me use his neg. scanner. I scan them into Photoshop as .psd, then burn a CD and bring them home to tweak.

I used to go to the darkroom, but you know, time and expenses for paper and mounting and renting the darkroom, etc. Photoshop in the long run is so much more economical, both time and $$. But I do miss the smell of the stop bath...

think i'll need to find a friend with a media firm

i agree PS makes things so much easier and cheaper, but like you, i sometimes miss the nasty smell of the chems and the amber/red lights, hehe.
