Nice Apotheosis ! Harley is probably correct about the choke being the cause of the squealing . If the PSU checks ok with MM but is old/used you might want to carefully open it up and blow the dust out of it . dont touch anything inside the psu , just use a vacum or compressed air

I cleaned out the PSU, it wasn't very dusty, due to it having being in a case with little air flow in it's previous life, I think. It is a very weedy PSU - only 250W, I did think it could have something to do with the OC'k, & that is probably the reason. I would get a 400W-500W PSU, but I don't think it is worth spending any more money on. It runs fine as it is & I'm mainly using it for the Web anyway. I do like the fact that the electric bills have been smaller since using it the past few months. I have spent just over £300 on this set-up, but this includes a very nice 22" Belinea Widescreen TFT, keyboard, mouse & Logitech X-140 2.1 Speakers. I want to sell the whole lot, & I know someone who is interested & would give me £400 for it, so rather than upgrade I'll sell it & put the money to something else.

I have another system based on an Athlon 939 4000+ - which is more substantial; but again I'll look to sell that one too at some point. I'll post the specs of the other machine sometime in the Athlon thread. I'm waiting for a while to see how much the 45nm Yorkfield Core 2 Quads will be, although I do like the look of the Core 2 Duo E8400, & the E8200, I'd combine it with an Asus P5K Premium WiFi-AP, which I think is about one of the best all round boards, & great for OverClocking, & a GeForce 9600GT.

It is very much a waiting game now with me, I have been watching PC components closely for the last 3 years; the technology moves quick, as we know, & I have a feeling that in a year from now we will be looking at some very nice products; & today's technology will have dropped in price again. Probably stating the obvious; but I keep thinking wait a bit longer & get something later.

One way I would like to see things go is allot more energy efficiency - Intel are doing well on that front, as are some PSU manufactures. However it would be good in the future to see high performance hardware running on low watts, a hard thing to expect I know in this age of 1KW PSU's, not mine though of course - 250W is pathetic. LOL.

YES ! sorry got excited id say 250w is probly not enough . a generic 259w psu new would be cutting close . get some capacitor aging added in and ...... id be willing to bet the 3.3 rail is taking a beating not to mention the 12v rail ....

Yes, it is a bit shocking. I have found this PSU on OC' UK -

Hiper 425W HPU-4S425 Silent ATX2.01 PSU

For £25.84 + P&P- It wouldn't break the bank & it seems OK, What do you think? Anything you would recommend?

Im not sure whats avail where you live but somthing like a Antec 380 - 480w or other quality name brand including the Hiper you mentioned would be ok . A quality 350w would even do the trick but im not a fan of cutting things close , id rather have alittle extra.
A psu can make a system or it can take it out is how i look at it ..

Well, I have just ordered the Hiper PSU - It came in at £35.24 including the Tax & P&P.

I searched for a review of this specific model, but didn't find any on it - I did however look at a few reviews of some of their other similar spec stuff, & it does seem like a very good quality manufacturer. It is very reasonable at the price & has got to be better than the thing presently installed. It will arrive on Friday as well, so not long to wait & I can some fun tinkering over the weekend & seeing if I can get the OC any higher. I debated whether to buy another dvd RW, & a 250GB HD, but by the time I'd finished upgrading I may as well have just bought another machine. I figure I could build a descent gaming rig for around £450, without the OS & peripherals.

just passed 22+ HRS of prime 95 at 1.44v 3606mhz (after vdroop mod) witch i was never able to do, Whoo Hooo! time for a nap before i push it higher to see how far 1.44v will go!!

Your memory timings seem very loose for the memory you have in your rig specs StrikerXtreme,
You should be able to still run CAS#4 at that speed.

Thanks for mentioning. I already did that couple of days ago after taking those shots but i had to change those settings manaully. Under AUTO, the mobo runs the sticks at the timings you saw. Any idea why??? My Corsair Dominators are supposed to run at 5-5-5-15 at 1066Mhz.

They are rated to run 5-5-5-15 @ DDR-1066 with 2.1volts.
When you first boot up your motherboard, it will only be giving the ram the DDR2 standard 1.8volts.
So if they put those timings in the SPD, it may not boot up to allow you to raise the memory voltage to 2.1v
