FF XII won't make a great deal of sense unless you played and followed the story of the game.

Even then it might not make too much sense.

Serenity was good, a little crude at parts though. Never followed the series.

Looking forward to Children of Men.

Probably going to see Ghost Rider this Friday.
I can't spell, but I am working on it.

Watched Serenity today with the family, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Sci-Fi action flick. Outstanding story with some nice twists, excellent acting and directing. Good to excellent cinematography. Effects were a bit low budget in places, but it doesn't take anything away from the film.

FF XII didn't make a heck of a lot of sense, and I have played the game, but the kids and I still enjoyed it, and it sure is pretty....

    MMmmmmmm.....Ghost Rider.......

Pan's Labyrinth is at the top of my must-see list, unfortunately I found out about it a little late and the only cinema it's playing at in this area sux really bad.

Watched Falling Down last night again...the ultimate movie for those who've "had enough".... Michael Douglas does such a great job.....at times you think he's just a bit extreme, at times a bit crazy, and there's a couple moments where you glimpse a full blown looney.....

Falling Down is an awesome movie. I've had days driving on the road where I considered doing that!

You should see Little Miss Sunshine if you haven't already seen it, that is a great movie too. Another one that I really enjoyed that not too many people know of is Happy Endings.

Yeah, LMS was very good....a nice, different movie to break up the same old same old.....

Added Happy Endings to my Netflix queue.....

Watched Broken Flowers....loved Bill Murrey in Lost in Translation, and he was just as good. It was a good, original, entertaining movie, but the ending was a bit.............abrupt. Worth watching for sure....

I wasn't able to get into Lost in Translation or The Royal Tenenbaums or Steve Zissou. I don't know why but I couldn't sit there for any of those movies. It was almost torturous for me.

    Any other recommendations though?

Magnolia is one of those that is based on a few seperate storylines that are somehow related and based on a theme...in this case it's extrordinary coincidences. It's a brilliant film IMO...the story, acting, and directing are all top notch.

Watched National Treasure for the first time last night....was expecting total rubbish and so was pleasantly surprised. It was fairly entertaining, that's about all I'll say...I'd give it a 5 out of 10. I'm into the subject matter (Knights Templar, Freemasons, etc), so I think that helped....if it wasn't for that I would have given it a 4 I think...

    Munich
I finally saw Munich. Excellent film; I give it a 9/10. I only mark down one point because I wanted about another 30 minutes or so to resolve the story line into the future a bit more...but then maybe that would have ruined the whole film.

But, I do like the way the film resolves as is; on a shot of Manhattan with the twin towers positioned in frame...then, eerily the statistics are shown on the screen how 9 of 11 Munich terrorists were ultimately hunted down and killed. The numbers 9 and 11 seen on screen with the twin towers shown in frame were like a foreshadowing sort of message regarding terrorism yet to occur on American soil...perhaps that was not the intented message, but it spoke to me as such, and it was very chilling. Excellent.

Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie
I also saw this interesting documetary film, narrated by William Shatner aka "The Shat" LOL!!!! Anyway, it is fascinating and chilling in it's own way as well. Amazing footage of numerous atmospheric nuclear blasts...seriously freaky stuff when you try to grasp the magnitude of the power of these brutally lethal weapons.

On a seperate but related note, I miss my HBO prods - Carnivale and Deadwood. The wife and I are watching Rome, now in it's second season - but it just isn't cutting it for me.

NINaudio, no I haven't, but I'll look for it...

joeMan, I thought Munich was a brilliant movie for what it was. The acting, directing and photography were stunning. The reason I wouldn't rate it higher than maybe a 7 or 8 was the story. Or maybe the directing of the story, I'm not sure. The problem is that people who know about those events or the history of those countries will surely get into the movie.....I couldn't. I know nothing of those events or the history of those countries, and while I found the story tragic I just couldn't get into it. I found myself constantly thinking "why did they do that? or why didn't they do this?". I felt Spielberg was trying to show the world what happened and how tragic it was, yet he failed to direct the movie so that idiots like myself could understand it enough to really get into it. The only other way I can explain it is Schindler's List. That was another powerful, tragic story. But in this case, everyone knows the background of those events, and therefore it's much easier to really get into the story.....does that make sense?

Anyway, glad you enjoyed it....it was a brilliant film and I wanted to get into it but just couldn't....

Haven't seen the second season of Rome, but we really enjoyed the first season...

Watched Man of the Year. It was funny and good and thrilling and blahblahblah, but what I got out of the movie was this: If there ever was a candidate for President that was like Tom Dobbs, I'd get off my arse and vote for him. This movie was a total fantasy for those of us who dream of a government full of people who are honest with no hidden agendas and who tell it as they see it. I sit and watch something like this and constantly say to myself "why can't we have a guy like that?"

And one more for today....Casino Royale. Let's see....how do I explain this one..... Brilliant movie, it really was....as long as you didn't think that it was a Bond movie. First off, it doesn't let you know where this film fits in with the rest of them. It shows Bond in the beginning (he isn't even 007 yet), but it takes place in 2006. So are they saying that this is how James Bond came to be, and we hope you don't notice that it takes place in today's age? Or are they saying this is how Bond came to be, but we've set it in today's age as an abstract? Or (and I suppose the most acceptable) are they saying that they replace 007 with someone periodically, that the new 007 takes the name James Bond automatically, and this is the story of the newest 007?

So as I said, this is a brilliant film as a spy film, but as a Bond film, it has issues:

-- James Bond does not drive a Ford Focus. I apologize to all you Focus, or even Ford drivers out there, but Bond would never sit in something so lowly. Bond's tushy contacts cars from Jaguar, Aston Martin, BMW, etc. It's a rule, go look it up.

-- Where were the gadgets??? One measley glove box turning thingy with a gun and a heart starting thingy? That's it? He played with his cell phone 10x more than he did with any spy gadgets. Bond has gadgets, it's part of being 007, go look it up.

-- James Bond does not fall in love. Sorry, but spys in general and Bond in particular are incapable of falling in love. Love em and leave em, keep up the playboy image. It's a law, go look it up.

-- Where were the car chases? Where was the action? Where were the crazy stunts? Don't get me wrong, the beginning of this film gives you as much heart-stopping action as in an entire regular spy film, but this is James Bond! Here's how Bond films work folks: Action, get gadgets, action, meet girl, action, villan gets upper hand, action, meet another girl, action, Bond wins. This film was: action, meet girl, play a super long poker game, the end. Lemme shed one example of how this is NOT a Bond film. Bond sees girl getting taken away. Bond jumps into an Aston Martin DB5, one of the most awesome cars in the WORLD, he drives it about a quarter mile, goes around a bend and flips it about 20 times. That's NOT a Bond car chase.

-- Bond does NOT go thru humiliating torture that leaves the male members of the audience queasy for 24 hours. It's a law, go look it up......but get me some ice first....

-- Q HAS to be in the film. It's a law, go look it up.

-- Bond films have loads of scantily clad women that flirt with James Bond. I sincerely apologize if this offends anyone, but until they pull Maxim and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue off newstands and make NFL cheerleaders wear clothes, I will state my right to see my scntily clad women in James Bond films as the rules allow....go look them up. If I remember right, there was one girl climbing out of the water in a swimsuit, and.............ummmm.......yep, that's about it.

Brilliant film, go see it/rent it/buy it. Just forget that it's supposed to be a Bond film.

Casino Royale is the first Bond book, its the first story that Fleming thought up. This is just supposed to be a Modern take on the Original book, I believe that is why none of those "laws" you just mentioned are present

Wiki defines it as a Prequel, much like the latest 3 in the Star Wars series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casino_Royale_(2006_film)
