it's hard to explain...

it's like solder i guess but it coats your whole tip rather than having to use solder...

you then coat the wire with the tinner and put some on the leg of the IC you want to attach the wire to... then put the two together.. and voila! all done!

death metal , Ship that mobo to Shim and he'll fix it up for you. Mine is a more temporary option for benchmarking, and doesn't require permanent modification.

shim, thanks for the tip as well. i still don't know how to do that but that should be enough info for me. i actually don't know what a "tinner" is but i'll go bust my lazy ass and search on the net.

are they the one that you mentioned, but there is a step about using soldering iron as well so I'm a bit confused...

tinning is taking the iron tip and coating it in a layer of solder so it has a shinny apearance. It helps tranfer the heat faster. Usually you would melt a bunch of solder on the iron tip then quickly wipe it with a rag and that coats or makes the solder stick to the tip.

For big wire solder connections one would normaly use the solder tip to heat the connected wires to the point they could then melt the solder and the solder would flow thru the wires welding them together, works great for big wires, but for small computer stuff like this you could ruin whatever you are soldering to real quick while waiting to heat everything up. So by tinning the iron and the wire end before you ever get the wire close to were you want to put it, all you need do it barely touch the iron to the spot and it melts right in without alot of heat or time near the board....or so I`ve been told.

Anyone have any idea if the Hercules 9800 PRO volt mods would be the same?? If so, Shim might be getting to play with mine soon.

~Edit.. Might also send my motherboard for some vdimm and droop lovin'. And what exactly did your Tru430 mods do to the rails? and would you be willing to do that to mine? Heheheh.

the 9800 can be modded... but i warn you... i'm 1 for 2 on this mod

the first time i did it, something was wack with my ground point and the voltage spiked and the card died

as for the antec TC mod, it basically allows you to get higher voltage rails...

so when i had my p4p800, i ran my 3.3 volt rail around 3.6 so that i could get at least 3.45 volts to my vdimm...

i also run my 5 at 5.17 and my 12 at 12.3

i haven't heard of a vagp mod for the p4p/c 800

the vdimm and vdroop should be no problem.

all i'm gonna require is money for the shipping.

What are you using for the soldering tool? Normal soldering iron or something newer.

The unit itself is $19.95 and the tips, there are 3, are $9.95 each. Not too bad. I'll say I can definitly do the mods with it on the small traces.

Plus, it works off of AA batteries. . .
