I have decided to give this a try and I downloaded the standard gui client, and it is telling me that I'm 20 of 2000 so far

    Current Work Unit
    -----------------
    Name: p2526_Am22-43
    Tag: -
    Download time: December 10 03:00:22
    Due time: February 1 03:00:22
    Progress: 1% [__________]

How long does it usually take to complete a work unit? Is the above information a correct time it should take to complete the set? (Wow!)
    Extremely new at this.

EDIT: I started reading about the SMP clients. Which from what I understand would take advantage of my 4 cores and start producing some WU's in a decent time, rather than the current 28ish hour for 1 (pft.) The stanford site has 2 version, which should I decide to got with?>
    Windows SMP MPICH
    or
    Windows SMP DEINO
    http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-SMP

When I get this all sorted out I think I'll get a bit back to overclocking and get some power behind it. I've been running stock lately since I've taken a break from gaming.

Which version of teh SMP client depends on the Version of Windows you are using. It pretty clear in the documentation. I think Vista requires MPICH.

I personally would recommend just using GPU clients on maybe a dual core to feed it. Its so much more effiecent and faster I have found. On my 280GTX I do a frame in about 43 secs so multiply that by 100 and divide by 60 and you get one unit every hour 10 mins. Plus the GPU units seem to give alot more points.

Anyways, just my thoughts, check out the GPU Madness thread.

About 3 hours for a WU on my stock 8800 GTS, thats A LOT better than 28 hours on a single core of my CPU.
I've read that gpu temps are safe all the way up to 100C, is that true, folding on my gpu seems to stress it worse than anything I've done yet, except furmark. 60C on 60% fan.

i switched to ATi and can't say that calculation speeds went down (i am not doing precise comparison, but if judged by the eye - same speeds) but one thing for sure - at the end of the 1st WU it almost killed my 4850 not totaly, but i was like - the hell...verticla stripes and graphical glitches all over the place even after the system reboot. and then i read in some GPU client related thread that current GPu client dislikes OC 4850s and makes whole system very unsatble - and so i lovered the core to default 4850's 625mhz speed and no problems so far (so when i want to run some folding everytime i downcklock core )

    really like these GPU clients

I'm liking it so far, 28 hours compared to 3, easy decision, and I'm running at stock right now anyway, lowered temps to 57C by raising fan to 70% so I doubt I will have any problems. Its looking like I can be putting out almost 45-50 WU's on my gpu alone if I run 24/7, but that is unlikely.

GPU client all the way! I used to oc my rig to try for 1700 ppd but why when i just got a new $100 9800gt that puts out 3000-4000 ppd and only runs 65C. The added bonus i've found is the desktop still responds well when surfing and crunching lol

I hear you, my cpu is only doing 200, (but I'm using the single core client)
and I'm getting 5100 with my stock 8800

I was going to change my Folding@home team number to BE team, can I change it in the middle of a WU?

hmm...the router shouldn't matter as the client is what initiates the communication. It could be that your local firewall or AV is blocking it after the reinstall and you might have to allow it to talk outbound.

Did you check their wiki to see what the install needed maybe?
