It appears that my MP2400 procs are getting way to hot now. In the bios the temps are reading 80C with the house at 77F. I'm currently using retail HSF, even the thermal compound is the retail. Since the price of these procs are low enough for replacement, I don't mind switching to non-retail HSF. Once I switch, I void the warranty. :(

Considering that I have to get two HSF assemblies - what is a reasonable set to consider? Here is a few things to consider.
1) No oc'ing
2) Folds all the time
3) Needs to be quiet

I will be cleaning out the case tonight but I don't think a proc at idle should be at 80C. The IWill has a tendency to show much higher temps on these procs but normally it would be around 60C in a 77F house-not 80C. The computer has shutdown when it reaches 100C so the temps are getting way to high. :(

If you can fit 2 SLK-900 with a pair of Papst 92mm@7v that should be quiet and give you some good cooling. :D

Here is a little light reading that might help you out. :)

Solved the problem. Just needed a strong light to see all the dust. There was a layer of dust over the HS-the fans have 9 fins or more so it can be rather hard to see the dust unless you use a light. The temps are back to 60C. :) I can fold again. :)

I also finally had a spare 80mm case fan so that I now have two in the back.

Dust, the scourge of heatsinks everywhere…hehe

My two SK6+’s get dusty fast, got to blow them out every 30-60 days. I think its because the fins are so close together.

The fins on my MP2400 and Opteron 240 procs are thin and close together. However the Opteron HSFs being heavier and with bigger fans are quieter. :)
