Hi all,
First post here. :)
I have my Auss P4C800E - Deluxe up and running since last week. Overclocking at 266FSB on a 2.4C, and very happy with it.
There's one thing that's bugging me though and it's the length of time it take from POST to displaying my boot menu - something like 30+ seconds.
I'm not using Raid - just a standards WD 80GB IDE, and I've disabled RAID in BIOS, but it seems as if it's checking other devices for boot options even though the HDD is 1st in the BIOS setup. Using BIOS ver 1009.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Cheers!

OK - just flashed the BIOS to the latest version. Still no resolution, I'm afraid.
I've left the Asus logo on - it takes about 20 seconds after that, with the cursor blinking before I'm given my choice of loading an OS. Very odd. I popped in a blank floppy to see what would happen - it picked it up immediately- I stuck in my Win XP CD, again I was given the prompt to hit any key to boot from the CD...
It's got to be something with the HDD, but what, I don't know. :?:

I know on some other boards theres a setting for IDE delay...and a seconds menu....is that on that board?
I know its buried in the BIOS the other times Ive seen it, not right out there and noticable...
Just an idea

Yeah - you're referring to the time to seek devices in IDE configuration. Tried it - no joy. :(
Can you make a short video of the bootup screen w/ a camera so we can see what is going on. It still sounds like the Promise Controller to me.

I haven't access to a cam at present, Hawk. But I thought by disabling the Promise in BIOS, I'd circumvent any problems which might be attributed to it.
I've run the Western Digital software to test it, all seems to be error free. The BIOS detects correctly the DMA and PIO of the HDD. The only thing I saw on WD support site that came close to answering my query was to reconfigure my jumpers, but the disk is already being detected as Primary.
If it is the Promise, I presume I'll have to request an RMA?

Hi folks. I meant to post this ages ago; in fact, I thought I did.
I discovered the problem. It's down to the WD HDD. I removed the jumpers totally, and rebooted. All is now fine. Thanks to some of the guys who post at OcUK for the help. :)
