I received my P4C800-E on Friday afternoon and have had a wonderful weekend installing everything and getting it completely stable. It's a wonderful board, but it has a few idiosyncracies that I don't understand:

1. When you set the BIOS options to default, the promise controller is enabled and the sytem won't boot (not using RAID yet) until it is set to disabled. This part I understand, what Idon't understand is that if I set all items execpt that to default to flash the BIOS, I get a checksum error after flashing and have to go in and reset it to disabled to get it to boot. Does a BIOS flash automatically return with all default values? Are checksum errors of this type common when flashing even at default?

2. I'm not running a fan attached to a MB header and each time when I boot I get a CPU fan error. Is there away to stop that error? I have all fans disabled in power section of BIOS.

Other than these two minor issues the system is stable as a rock.

For 1:

Yes, it resets the BIOS to the defaults and gives a bad value for the CPU until it is reset. I think this is an AMI thing.

2. For the CPU fan, turn off the CPU fan monitor in the Power managment section.. . . .

I too have this when re flashing the BIOS!!! Also,,, does anyone else with this board get extra boot 'beeps', the number varying according to how many USB devices you have attached?
I am using the Promise Raid controller for my RAID0 config containing the OS,, would I be able to transfer the SATA leads to the Intel SATA connectors without upsetting my system?

PS, My first post,, I built my own system using this board last week, after migrating from AMD!!! :)

The beeps, I read, are standard. That said, I haven't heard any :)

Hi Chris, I've done moving my RAID1 connections from Promise to Intel's ICH5R last night, it was successful but prompt me to re-install o.s. and which I did.

Thanks for that comecum :), I think I'll leave it on the Promise set up for now though,, as I can't face reformatting, installing and D/L all those updates again!!! lol
