Is the DVD player set as a boot device in the bios? Do you have a CD drive instead to try?

Are the Raptors in raid and did you hit F6 to install the raid drivers? I think windows asks you before it installs the os.

Spud,

Is the DVD drive a SATA device? or is it IDE?

You should not need any drivers for the Raptor if you are using the SATA non RAID.

What motherboard are we dealing with here?

Do you have RAID disabled in the bios?

I just installed a single raptor .. do not hit f6 and do not install any raid drivers ... make sure your bios has raid disabled also ... xp-pro loaded right up for me with all it's own drivers np....

p.s. this was a newer version of xp-pro - service pack 2 included ...

Your peeps and your buds here are right bud. You don't need to hit F6 to install the raid driver when you are using a single (non-raided) drive.

Is this a new build using a new drive? Apologies for all these questions but need to know to help pin point why there is a problem.

nVidia sata controller is SATA II, probably why it will not work with Windows XP drivers. Hence one needs to use the nvidia sata controller driver.

Safely remove storage icon, yes normal Sata drives are hot swapable. U could while window is running, click on icon select drive, and stop it. After wich you could unplug the hard drive and install another one.

Be extremelly careful for this is all in theroy and works only in a Raid 5 environment. Anything else and you will crash.
