the generic psu in my work pc (Gateway) bit the dust ! i was shocked to see it was only a 250 w psu with only 13amps on the 12v rail ! also Shocked that it lasted 4 yrs
anyways i was goona replace it with a antec 430 but i found this Raidmax 500w psu for 37.00 $ US. (close out sale ) and couldnt resist the price .
the 3.3v = 30amps 5v = 50amps and 12v = 25amps not bad ! the thing is ive never used any psu other than Antec , pc p&c or sparkle and i was wondering what you all think about this Raidmax ????
i googled it and could only find one review and all though the review was more or less positive it also stated that the 12v rail was only showing 11.64 v with a multi meter wich is abit weak ! (ill be testing it with my multimeter and report back)
has anyone done a 12v rail mod on one of these ?

checked psu with a multimeter the 3.3 and 5v rails are good the 12v rail read 11.66v
i used a psu tester and had a fan pluged into a molex connector to put some sort of load on the psu . this system is ran stock , has 1 hd , cdr ,dvdr + - rom 2 sunon 120's and a 70mm pan fan fans are on a Nexus fan controler what do you all think should i bother modding psu (vsense mod ) i havent looked yet but i dont think it has pots inside anyone know ?

I wouldnt bother with a mod. Raidmax is a little generic, but overall a solid company from what I've seen. Powersupply should be fine. 12v is a bit low, but as long as everything runs nice and solid, shouldn't do bad.

thanks for your opinion bro ! thats kinda how i was thinking also but being the anal , picky so n so that i am ... i needed a second opinion .
I have also seen in the past that once a psu is installed and has a real life load the 12v rail seems to provide more v's than sitting on the shelf with a jumper and 1 fan pluged in . Ill install it today so i guess ill find out then .

Subsider - is there much of a load on the +12v rail? I noticed with an old PSU I have for bench testing stuff that the voltage on the it's +12v rail will go up with a load. Maybe daisy chain a bunch of fans or soemthing?
Just a thought.

He's hooking it up to his system now, so we should see the 12v improve.

well i got it installed ended up to be a small project , i decided to change the old ide cables and clean things up abit i also had to remove the tool-less junk Gateway had holding the old psu and the i realized :yikes: the case had no holes for the mounting screws so after i :beat: :smash: :beat: i guted the case then i :beat: :smash: :beat: i put everything back in and was done . booted err up everything seems good . then i check it with multi meter the 3.3v is 3.37 , 5v is 5.1 and 12v is 11.7 :beat: i was hopin to see at the least 11.9 :irk: 12.1 would have been more like it . temps are down 2c though due to the fact this psu has working fans ! 3 fans at that and its quiet too. that dont matter since it has 2 120 x 35 mm sunons and a 70 mm pan fan hummin away not to mention its 3ft away from the pc in my sig
i guess ill have to see how it go's and if i can sleep at night knowing the 12v rail isnt as high as i would like :)
