Here (http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html) are some interesting stats.
Now think about these stats and the time line taken to complete this survey. Now do you think over 700,000 Steam Users voluntarily took the time to complete this survey over the past 5 day???
If you are a little doubtful then ask yourself how they collected this data. Got an answer? Now what other data do you think they have collected by the same means?
This is not to bash the game HL2 which is awesome from what I have seen. Just giving you something to think about.
:look: :suspect:

Are you paranoid? That doesn't mean they're not after you.
This was a survey done as you logged on to Steam and it was completely voluntary.
I voluntarily replied to the Steam survey and it took about 1 minute.
Where's my beer?

Okay, I'll take my tin-foil cap back from BB and wear it appropriately :D
Good to hear 70,000 folks voluntarily provided this info in 5 days.
Yeah I cannot beleive what people are playing HL2 with.

Are we sure this was voluntary. . . :yikes:

Serious reply this time Snafu. I would be very suprised if it was voluntary, TBH. I know I would be clicking 'no' to any attempt to invade my privacy for the sake of a game.

Oops - I should have said - glad to hear that 700,000 users voluntarily completed the survey in 5 days (140,000 per day).
Since some folks suggested they completed the survey when asked I was wondering if this was completely voluntary.
The numbers do suggest a huge amount of voluntary compliance.
I wonder how many registered users they have?
Something to ponder

Well with big bro steam you have to login in to steam first to play CSS. They had a manditory update that day so everyone who logged in and update had an option to say yes or no to fill the survey. All you had to do was click yes and they had a script to read what your system was comprised of.

Yeah people...Steam is worldwide! I'm surprised that thats all they got to be honest. All of you that are anti-Steam need to get over your phobias. Personally, if you dont like Steam thats fine, but hearing people b!tch about it is kinda getting old...and its not only hear that its heard, so I'm not pointing fingers. Its a shame that some of you are missing out on one of the best single and multiplayer game(s) just because you have to logon to a simple program like Steam. Its there so that everyone can interact online, you get up to the date updates and patches and its there for anti-piracy. All of that sounds good to me.

Alright, that is all well and good but, what about 6 years from now?
What if for whatever reason Valve goes belly-up?
(Fat chance of that but still consider my argument. A more likely situation is they stop supporting it in say 2010.)
Will I a paying customer be able to still play the game I bought when it is no longer supported? Or will I be screwed?
This is my greatest fear of buying HL2.

I doubt that would ever happen. But if it did I'm sure that either Steam will be dropped or it will be handed over to another company.

What?
No speaka da Englisha!?!
(No offence intended to any ethnicity. I was refering to myself.)
Seriously, I try to keep abreast with everything I am interested in. (GAMES!)
I see more companies in the future doing what Valve did with HL2.
So I am very interested in HL2 and its relation with Steam.
