Everyone,

I have a question concerning my new motherboard. I received my new motherboard (ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe) last weekend. After installing the MB and updating the OS, I decided to download the Intel Application Accelerator Raid edition from the Intel website. I did this because the file that came on the motherboard disk (ASUS) returned a message that it wouldn't work with the chipset on my motherboard. That model board should have the Intel 875P and the ICH5R. Right?

Anyway, I downloaded the file software version PV 3.5 of the Intel Application Accelerator Raid Edition from the Intel website and it returned the same message.

In addition, the MB that I received has a sticker that indicates that it is an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard. In the past, all of my ASUS MB's have had the name 'painted' onto the board. I have been thinking that maybe I didn't receive the MB that I was sold. What do you think?

Any help would be much appreciated.:-)

I don't have the board you have but I do know that depending on how the drive(s) are connected to the ICH5R makes a difference. With my GA-8KNXP if I use the IDE port mapping in the bios, the ICH5R is listed as 8####EB in the device manager and if I tell the bios that ICH5R should have RAID enabled that I would then have the 8####ER in the device manager. The IAARE needs to see the ICH5R as 8####ER.

Do you RAID setup to run off the ICH5-R Controller? If not, then you cannot install IAA 3.5. . . . ;)

That's interesting as I am using the IDE Raid, not the SATA raid on this MB. My data hard drives are a pair of IBM Deskstars 180GXP 7200rpm 60GB. I have set them up for mirroring (RAID 1) and might not be using the correct RAID chip for the IAARE file. My master drive is a SATA drive but I am not using the SATA Raid at all.

Do you think that could be the problem?

Hawk,

Maybe that is the problem. Is that saying that the Intel App Accel will only work for SATA drives?

If you have them on the IDE, you answered your own question. ;) The IDE is off the Promise controller.

If you want IAA, get 2 SATA converters and run them off the SATA ports. . . . :D

Thanks Hawk! I appreciate it.

So I guess that I do have the correct MB, huh?

What do you mean? I'm using the ICH5R with one SATA drive and I installed the IAARE. Works just fine with one drive.

IAA can be installed to non raid ICH5R setups for someone that needs to add a second disk to his setup and software raid them.
However i don't think of a reason why else would u like to install it. I don't bother installing it and i have a raid setup... ;)

I hate IAA.I don't run raid anyways. All it does is give me problems when I install IAA.It won't even let me uninstall it after its been installed. My system runs like crap with IAA.

Pointreyes,

What is the advantage to using Raid on a single drive? Is there any? I would not have thougt about doing that.

Thanks.:)

I'm not running RAID on a single drive but I am using a single drive on the RAID controller because it's the ICH5R controller. The ICH5R and CSA LAN were the two main components that made me get a Canterwood board.

Thanks for explaining it.
