Last poll!!! Hehehe

I need some ram. I am not going for balls against the wall speed as I will likely settle with 5:4 ratios and high cas settings. Cpu is an unknown right now.....If I go 2.4c I will need the pc3700 route, but right now I am leaing more towards the 2.6c and likely can get by with pc3500 at the most. Not much for the future, but I am not that worried about that at the moment. Upgradeability seems shot with prescott compatability with mobos up in the air anyways.

OCZ PC3700 Gold gets my vote

1. they're double sided for better performance on 875/865 boards
2. 2.6C i've seen lots of them do 250+ fsb so OCZ PC3700 Gold will be good 2.6C@3250 :)

Actually I don't...I have watched my numbers and I rarely see myself below 200mb left. I can't afford the (2) 512mb stick so I will live with what I can get....I rather save the money and look into getting some 10000rpm raptors...

in that case i still suggest you get double sided ram, which leaves you very little choice ;) (OCZ)

Hynix PC3200 D43 chips rated at @200mhz 3-3-3-8 at 2.5v i believe are also used on 512MB Transcend PC3200 memory

mine only cost US$92 per 512MB stick in Australia and easily do 250mhz 2.5-4-3-7 at 2.8v

You wont see your ram go down to nothing. Windows wont let that happen.

Has anyone tried the Buffalo PC3700 out yet? Newegg sells it for $99 a 512 meg stick. It is supposed to be Winbond BH5 which is generally very good. If this stuff is any decent at all, that is a GREAT price!

actually that is not true I have been able when I was goofing around to drag it down to 44mb of ram left as seen in task manager. That ofcourse does not represent real-world use for me so I don't view it as relevant.

I like the sound of those chips if they are worth their wait. I will likely go the 2.6c route so I only need to run in the 430-440's max likely....

Somebody needs to test those Buffalo 512M BH5s out!

But I believe on my P4C800-E 4 sticks = loss of PAT until Asus comes out with a new bios. :(

I would love t have 1gb in 2 sticks but money wont allow that. So I can live with 512mb and really view this as a short term project since I will likely step up to a prescott chip within 6-8months and probably want better ram...

The buffalotech ram appears to be cas latency 3 but 2 bank which I assume is double-sided....

I like th priceof the hyperx pc4000 which can be had for $93/256mb...makes it possibly worthwhile in considering as well as the 2.4c possibly...

I am hearing some questionable results on the Hyperx and compatability with certain mobos, and unfortunately many of those mobos are the ones I am considering....So therefore it looks like I may go the OCZ route....

Thanks guys but continue giving me some feedback...if you like hyperx tell me if you have ran it and on what mobos?? Could you run at spec speed and spec timings???

What rev is the XMS 3000 that you have?

Where do I look??? On the shields of the ram??? They were pretty new. I got them when pc3200 was just coming out at cas 2.5 and many were saying the pc3200 was the pc3000 cas 2 stuff overclocked. It does quite well...It does 410mhz at cas2...I believe as corsair got into cas2 pc3200 and moved into early cas 3500 stuff the good pc3000 ram wasn't marketed in those ranges and thus pc3000 stuff after cas2 pc3200 was really the stuff that couldn't cut the 400mhz ddr at cas 2.

I could try to match this stick but I think I would have a pssibly tough time...

My vote for the OCZ 3700s. And oh, look here, there are some for sale at ATForums (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=1130526&forumid=1). :D

It will be labled on the heatspreader.

Many people are (finally) comming to the realization that runing high DDR speed and high latency are not all that great. There are serveral threads going on at several forums like this one on this subject. Low latency ram is hard to find these days. A match to the one you have would be a nice setup. I'd at least try and see if you could find one. It will be pretty hard. A LOT more PC3200 was sold than PC3000. I wonder if an XMS3200C2 rev 1.1 would work with it. I bet they are the same chips.

I guess I could handle 433mhz range no problem so 2.6c and the ghz oc I am looking for would fit fine.....

I guess either way I was looking at close to 80-100 bucks to get newer high speed ram....

I will look into it....
