Am I the only person here that has had the IC7G MOBO for a few months now (approaching 3) and have not had to repalce the NB fan yet? My system is up almost continously and I leave it running at full speed about 6900 RPM according to the monitor. It just keeps working no fuss, noise etc... There are horror stories on the ABIT page but I'm wondering if it is a little overblown. I know the MAX 3 is due out with a new one. This ceratinly looks like the Passive heat pipe on my video card will not work with it. Should I worry and do some PM and change out the fan now or oshould I wait? If hte fan dies will the Computer shut down and not damage the NB. I know this works on the CPU fan.

there are many reports of the NB HS breaking the mounting loops off the board. id suggest replacing it asap before that happens. i recommend the thermaltake tiger1 on a IC7.

It's not just the IC7 either. There are two posts today on Anandtech about the HSF's falling of BH7's..

I've got some problems and tried getting hold of Abit RMA to get their new fan as I don't wanna glue a hs or hsf to the nb. :D

I just got my new NB fan, so I'll connect it tonight or tomorrow. I'll tell you what I think about it when it's in. I bet it'll be an improvement as for now I use speedfan to drag down the old NB to 50% so I can't hear the noise it's doing. :D

Does this problem consist with the IS7 mobo as well??? Is this an overall Abit issue??

Moonwizard, So Abit sent you a NB fan no cost??? I guess they are admitting to some sort of defect...

Yeah, IS7 have the same NB as IC7 so you might come up with problems. :)

Yeah, Abit netherlands sent me one for free, the only bad is that I've to send the old one back to them so that is gonna cost me. But it's alright I guess. :D And sure most ppl with the old nb fan have had problems sooner or later which means that it'll make more noise and so. So they have to change it for ppl. :D

Installed it today. It was really easy. I couldn't be bothered with taking the pink goo away and apply some ASIII on it. So I hope it'll work ok. :D

Pretty sure that ABIT customers in EUR are getting the fan for free. In the U.S., though, you'll need to RMA your whole board to get a new fan gratis.

As an unhappy casualty of the NB loop wars, I suggest that if your retainer loops are okay and you just want/need the new HSF, order one from excaliberpc.com and install yourself. Or, install something else altogether.

I've heard the same about the RMA. I think that sucks that you in the US can't get them to send you a replacement nb fan. Oh well. That's life. :D
