I assume you want a good oc'ing chip?

The best thing you can do is read some of the reports in this forum about what people are getting with theirs and try to find one like it. As an example, check out the post by "skully" about the 2.6c he found. Just remember that even if you get an identical FPO/Batch and pack date, it doesn't mean you will get the same results. There are way to many variables.

Technonut and I both got identical 2.6c's from Newegg and he is getting 3.5ghz with his and I'm getting 3.4ghz. It's pretty much "luck of the draw", but you can narrow the odds if you do a lot of reading and chip hunting..... good luck:)

Of course you can allways watch the "for sale" section and wait for one of the members to part with a "good" oc'ing cpu....... lol, you better be quick when they list it though..:D

Common guys! Wot chip? I have been looking hard, it seams a P4 2.4C made in Malaysia is the best oc'ing P4 chip out there, and the cheapest. Is this a known thing?

Go with a 2.4C or 2.6C. You should be able to OC well into the 270+ mark.

With the 2.8C & 3.0C, expect around the 250FSB mark.

From the response above, it got me to wondering if I would have any problem OC'ing a 2.8C if I have PC4000 memory. My concern is that if the 2.8C has only been shown to be OC'd to a 250FSB, that I might not be able to run the processor and memory at 1:1, if the processor turned out to be less that desirable.

In other words, would I have been better off going with a 2.4C or 2.6C?

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Have you had any experience with a 2.4 or 2.6C?

No I havent tried them, but plenty of people do well with them. The same thing applies and will always apply either you get a good one or you dont.

You can buy the EXACT same chip as the next person but it wont mean a thing cause the chip will do what it wants to do. The average O/C for the 2.4 and 2.6 are higher then the 2.8 from what I have seen. Unless that has changed recently.

Interesting. You know, it's almost like gambling. You either win or lose.

Heaven knows I'm due to win, but we'll see. I've just ordered a 2.6C, so I'll let you know what happens when I get it.

I'm brand new to OC'ing, so it should be interesting.:-)
