View Full Version : 'Double-Click' & 'Avenue-A' warnings popping up a lot lately...

Recently, I started getting a lot of these little popup windows from SpyBot S&D telling me that these two have attempted to download, Avenue-A and Double-Click. It happened both at MSN & PC World websites. I have run AdawareSE and SpyBot S&D with latest definitions and they find nothing...

Everything seems to running okay, but it's just weird that they pop up now all of a sudden. Also, when I go back to those sited again - the problem does not reoccur. Only happens upon first visit there...

Might just be popups...or a trojan...virus scan your PC, see if that helps.

Something sounds wrong. I can't see PCWorld allowing that to happen.

Same here, completely update both spyware progs and download RegMech to repair any faulty reg errors. Then enter into safe mode WITHOUT networking, dont want any internet connection here. Run both spyware progs and RegMech and then see what happens. While in safe mode also run whatever antivirus software you may have. This kinda stuff has happened to me and doing the above has always seemed to work for me.

May be old news, but Microsoft has a beta spyware program available here. (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx)

I haven't tried it out yet but it may be worth a shot.

All right. Thanks. I'm in the middle of XML/JavaScripting for school assignment - due tonight @ 9pmPST. I'll look into this more after that.

I agree completely about PC World not allowing any shinanigans - also MSN surprised me too...

AV - would RegSupreme do just as well as RegMech?

Im guessing it would. Im not familiar with the program as RegMech has always seemed to work just fine for me and Ive had no reason to switch. All I know is that RegMech has found alot of reg errors that Adaware doesnt.

Okay. Booted to safemode, ran Adaware, SpyBot S&D, SpySubtract, and RegSupreme...did all that and it found only a few invalid reg entries, dead ends etc. nothing unusual - it always finds some of those. Not surprising as the messages SpyBot S&D showed said these places attempted to download (or something to that affect) - so apparently it did a good job blocking them. But, I still think it's weird I got those msgs in the first place...

Well, are you still getting them or have they gone away? If youre still getting them then I dont know what it could be.

DOH! Would have been nice to include that huh...

No, the popups have gone away and not come back since I ran Adaware and S&D and RegSupreme...I'm just kind of baffled that I was suddenly beseiged with 3 or 4 of each on those two different sites out of nowhere and then nothing. Nothing before and nothing since - it's just weird.

PC-world is one of the worst sites for putting Double-Click (cookies) on your PC.

Is that a fact?

I changed my browser settings to block most of them. I have IE setup to accept only first party cookies and block all third party cookies. Some still get though but ad-aware takes care of those. I've seen that Avenue-A popup before. It's been a while and I don't remember what caused it or if I did anything to make it go away.

I've been thinking about it and I think you will get those popup messages if your security setting in IE is set to the maximum or close to it for that zone. The last time I saw those popup messages I believe I was browsing a forum.
