AMD stock up 14% (http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2003Aug/bch20030819021384.htm) a long uphill battle still lies ahead for them, however, Opteron is a strong "tip of the spear" in their quest for penetrating the more lucrative server/high-end workstation market.

Sometimes stock price has nothing to do with earnings... for example... if a mutual fund buys 5% of the shares, the price will most likely jump because volume will increase, and people sometimes trade based on volume... greater the demand, greater the price. Same goes for selling... if a mutual fund owns 5% of the shares and sells them all, watch the price drop.

This stock price increase certainly has nothing to do with earnings, what in my post led you to believe that was the reason I believed it went up  This is due to Hickey buying it based on his estimations of the Opteron as the blurb states. People follow his lead because of his track record and sound judgement
Fred Hickey, editor of the influential High-Tech Strategist newsletter, toils far from Wall Street, in Nashua, N.H. That distance, plus an enviable Rolodex amassed over 20 years in techdom, enables the fiercely independent analyst to keep tabs on the industry without getting caught up in the hype. Toward the end of the boom, for instance, Hickey told anyone who would listen that the insanity wouldn't last
Hickey advises readers to play the bear market rallies. In October, for instance, he bought software makers Legato Systems (LGTO ) and Network Associates (NET ) and doubled his money when he sold them three months later.

No I know you didn't mean that... but a lot of people have no idea what influences the prices of stocks. Most people think if the stock increases in value it's becaue the company's net worth is greater... which isn't always the case.

14% is a good jump for AMD. Good for them!
