I just got the Super Flower Fanmaster which has fan controls and temperature sensors. I've never installed one of these before, and I'm not sure exactly where to place the sensor for the CPU. This is what a review of the Fanmaster says:

"Placement of the sensors is critical for an accurate reading on the front panel. For a CPU sensor make sure to place it under the HSF (Heat Sink & Fan), but not on top of the core. It should be setup so that the tip of the sensor is just touching the side of the CPU core. If you interfere with the contact of the HSF and CPU it could result in a fried CPU. You can either use the application tape that is included, or a drop of super glue to hold the sensor in place."

I do not want to fry my cpu, which is a Pentium 4 3.2C. So.....wonder if you guys could give me some advice exactly where to place it, just off to the side of the core? Under the pins? Also, there is some very thin cellophane on the tips of the sensors. Looking at the review, it looks like they are supposed to stay on. Is that correct?

The major difference from the picture you posted is your P4 has the Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS). You will want to have the temp probe touching the side of the IHS. This is about as accurate a place you will get. Another option could be to place the temp probe down in the top center of your heatsink.

Make sure you are using another temp monitoring program that gets info from the CPU’s internal sensor. That way you can monitor temps and compare with the Fanmasters temps. The fanmasters temps will probably be lower. You should be able to work out a good temp scale in a few minutes…. ie CPU = 40c Fanmaster = 38c, then you can adjust the fans accordingly.

Thanks very much, RotorHead. I will place the sensor on the side of the IHS. I have a Zalman 7000 clone that has the fan placed inside the center of the copper fins if I recall correctly, so not sure how I'd put the sensor in there.

I had mine installed like that, it was under the heatsink with the tip just touching the IHS and it read very close to what Asus Probe read, +/- 1c.

I installed the Fanmaster and it's awesome! :D It's pretty much right on with Asus Probe (which always reports a few degrees cooler than the bios). Thanks very much for the help, it's greatly appreciated. Now if only I could get my floppy drive working :beat: On my way to post in that thread.

Hey, AV, the case is working great. It was really nice when I was installing the Fanmaster today how easy it is to work with compared to my last case. Sides come right off, no struggling, and gotta love the removable motherboard tray. Best of all, the Fanmaster looks dynamite in it :D

Thanks again for the recommendation. My only complaint is how easy the case gets scratched, but I think that's probably true for any aluminum case.

Here's a pic of the fanmaster installed (cheap camera so pic probably isn't very clear):

Thanks, Ryder! I changed the pic from the other one, but don't think this one is any better.
