Well, i did a little run down on this mobo with the ocz gold pc3700. For one thing, i really like this board, except for PAT being disabled over 210FSB, but as thugsrock has pointed out to me i can bypass that with Setfsb. But the nice thing is, whereas i could not use 4x256MB ocz gold pc3700 on my Abit IC7-G at 240FSB 1:1 with 2,3,3,6, it seems i can on this mobo. The highest stable fsb on the IC7-G with 4x256MB was 230FSB. But, the odd thing is memory bandwidth was lower when compared to 2x256MB at the same specs. But both were lower when compared to the IC7-G at the same specs probably due to PAT being disabled. Now i have to see how my ocz gold pc4000 2x512 will do when comapared to the above. But dam this is a nice looking board and very roomy even with 6 dimm slots and 2 extra ide slots.

And don't forget the 2 extra SATA connections. I have to admit it is a sweet board and it is amazing that it has 3 RAID controllers on it. Plus it's one of the few boards that are 6-layered.

So Prescott support is conclusive with the 8knxp? If so, makes me even happier that I picked this board. I was having a hard time trying to decide but it was the 6-layer PCB and no miserable Promise controllers on it that finally convinced me to try it out.

What makes it Prescott ready ?? I have been trying to figure that out.

What makes it Prescott ready ?? I have been trying to figure that out.

Well, i was kind of being overzealous in my readings of articles regarding prescott support for gigabyte boards with DPS. It has not been OFFICIALLY announced, but, there have been numerous remarks and unofficial rumors to this effect. One such article:

Gigabyte Mainboards Support Intel Prescott Processor Now? (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards/display/20030716172709.html)

But anyways sorry for the unofficial statement :p :D :p But I am willing to bet it will be compliant.

By the way, have you guys seen this?

Nope. But is sounds like yet another Springdale with PAT enabled on it.

I hope the article is correct. I also have seen other articles that say the opposite, though not specific to Gigabyte and DPS.

If this board will not support the new processor, I will sell it and buy a Intel board.

If this DPS is going to do something great. If, not, I think it may be a big power draw. My 480w PSU seemes maxed out.

Considering that the Prescott will suck an additional 30+ watts out of your PSU-I think I would be more concerned about what is causing the current drainage. What happens when you don't use the cathode tubes or do you have a device that is sucking up wattage? The only thing that should cause additional wattage with the DPS is the fan and the light to the fan.

Hmmm

I know the Video card (FX5900U) is a big draw. And, I have 4 hard drives, lots of fans and yes, lights.

I would pull this PSU and replace now, but it is a big job for me. I am nuts about running wires and cables neat.

Things are working well now, I had to clear a 12v rail for the video card. But, with the Gigabyte Utility Manager the 12v does flux some.

I will still go Intel MB if this board will not work with the new CPU, power or not. That would be a good time to pull the PSU.

But if The Prescott is supported, I am keeping this board (I do like it).

Well i have the enermax 550W and its the most stable rails u can have with all lines rated at 36A which is he highest so far on the current psu's out. I have not had any undervolting with this power supply and i have 3 of them. And it seems the DPS gets me more stable on my knxp then on my IC7-G with overclocks, not to mention a vdimm of 2.9 instead of 2.8 on the abit.

Do you use GUM ?
What do the 12v rails flux at (if any) ?

I happen to have the Enermax 550w EPS12v 'Server-class' PSU on my AMD dually (the mb is an EPS12v board). It also has the 36a rating on all the lines, very stable, quiet PSU and I'm running 4 hard drives for a RAID 5 configuration on my 3Ware controller with 4 fans, 1 CD burner, and the 9500 Pro. SuSE 8.2 Pro sure runs sweet on that box. :) I have the Antec TrueControl 550w on my 8knxp. Also very stable.

I have run a 3C and 2.6C well over 4 gig with the cpu putting well over 100w out and the mobo's were fine.

P4P800D x2 and the AX4Cmax.I don't think we will have a problem.I few little heatsinks and a 120mm fan blowing on the mosfets will do fine.
