I just found this forum and it sounds like that I am in luck. Looks like there are a lot of experts here.
I read a lot of good reviews on this drive but it is having a problem reading and recognizing my regular CDs. When I put in a data CD it takes a long time before the CD is recognized (18 seconds) and during this time if I try to access the CD by another program (lets say if NERO is open), then I hear endless accessing of disc inside the drive with everything else frozen until I eject the CD. Everything else works fine on this drive.
The CDs that I have problem with are Memorex that are burned with an older sony burner. That older burner never had this issue.
Sony support was limited to update bios, update drive firmware. Also per their recommendation I switched to "Standard Microsoft Driver" for my IDE controller from VIA. That didn't solve the problem and created a new one. Now I am locked into PIO mode instead of UDMA and even after uninstalling the driver and reinstalling the VIA driver it keeps jumping back into PIO mode.
Please somebody help :)
Thanks a lot in advance
