I have a 17" planar LCD (16 ms response time / dvi)...
i want to get another LCD but can't decide on the size
should i get another 17" (dell 1704FP / 25 ms response time / dvi) ... cost $244
OR
should i get a 19" (dell 1905FP / 20 ms response time / dvi) ... cost $377
the reason why i ask is because a 17 inch and 19 inch setup would like weirder than two 17" lcd's... you know what i'm saying?
i also have a x800 tha tonly has one dvi and one analog so i'd have to plug one into the analog even though it'd be dvi...
what do you guys think? thanks!

try and get another monitor with the 16ms response time as i feel having two monitors with different response time would be unbalanced (correct me if i am wrong) also definitely consider a new monitor of the same size seeing you are wanting to run dual monitor as it would look funny with two monitors of different size
Bigger is better. . . . I seem to think that the 17" is too small now a days. At work I use a 19", at home is the 21".

That's a tough one. I used a 19" and 17" (crt's) in dual monitor mode for a while and I didn't like it as much as when I had two 19's. I'd still go with the 19" though. You can put up with the size difference for a while and then buy another 19" and move the 17" over to another setup or sell it and recoup some of your cost.

yes that is very true sodface...
but this planar 16ms rocks!!! i love it! :)
i don't want to sell it!!!
but man, dual 19" would rock as well :)
hmm...
so from people's experience...
does 16 ms really differ in performance from 25 ms?
thanks!

While not LCD's I have been running a 21" and a 17" dual screen setup at work for years now. At home I finally made the move and am running a 18" Dell LCD and a 17" Samsung side by side. I have the larger monitor on the left and is the primary display so when I sweep my mouse right it moves to the smaller display. I put things like web pages, notes, taskman, stuff I want to moniter on the smaller, and game/work on the Primary display. I don't really pay attention to the size difference any more to its quite apparent at work.
I have to say IMHO fast response time is primary for gaming, and then SIZE though. :D

cool.
unfortunately the 19 in with 20 ms has really bad ghosting problems so i'm not getting it.
i've been looking at getting the 2001fp though 16 ms with dvi...
guess that would be my primary and my planar my secondary... man, what a waste though lol :)

How about an option C?
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-001-171&depa=1
Samasung 710N for $265. 17", 12ms. It's a very good LCD, from everything I've read. While it lacks DVI, there's no difference in picture quality, etc than its DVI equivelent, which costs over $400. When I was in Best Buy a few weeks ago, they had one, and I took a look at it, and the picture quality was amazing, very crisp and clean. I don't have one. Yet. I'll be ordering mine in a couple weeks, before the rebate expires.

why dont you opt for one moniter, the:
go for the kill and buy the Dell 2005FPW- 20.1'', 12ms, widescreen, 600:1 contrast ratio.
its the refined model of the 2001FP.

Oh watch out with the Dell 2005, I researched it was looking at it for possible purchase. Bottom line look on Dell's forum and google for it, very very nasty comments on that LCD.

sell the 17 on ebay, you probably will get good money for it since it is 16ms.

Not sure if this is posted anywhere but a VERY good article on LCD displays in general and how they come up with the numbers they do.

Hey ALX_eater,
Sorry you seem to have problems with Dell. I guess we can all share a story, but here is mine.
We shifted to Dell for all our (desk/lap)tops(50+)/servers(6) 6 years ago and haven't looked back. Zero issues with the servers (still running the 4200's we bought when I started 6 years ago) We buy the service plans for the laptops, so they are out next day to fix them. Desktops the worst we had is a couple power supplies go out, and a hand full of hard drives. With our experiance here I recommend them for work and home with no hesitation.
