Just thought I'd share my findings with this board...

A family member keeps unintentionally installing Gator and Precision Time and all those other crappy GAIN applications... he claims they install themselves.

I found a solution, but unfortunately it won't work unless you're using NTFS and can set permissions for individual folders.

There is a file when you install a GAIN application called trickler_bic_gatorpt_4010.exe located in C:\Program Files\WebPT

I deleted the file in that foler, and I denied write permission on that folder, and attempting to install any GAIN software, Precision Time, Date Manager, and Gator all fail.

adaware will remove all gator crap.

just set it up and show them how to run it every couple of days.

also explain to them that when stuff like that pops up while browsing ~ always say NO!

chances are its too late tho cause they already not only said yes ~ they prolly said "trust me" too

Adaware doesn't remove it all... there's still folders left in the Common Files folder, and still some registry entries. They may not do anything, but I don't want ANY GAIN crap on my computer.

understood and agreed :-)

adaware will disable them tho.
i mean, its better then doing nothing.

Ideally I wouldn't let anyone else use my computer =) but because I let them use my computer, I don't pay for my cable internet =)
