Well, for X-mas I got a Lite-On 52x CD-RW/16x DVD-ROM combo drive and a Lite-On 16x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer drive. What I was wondering is if I can direct copy DVD movies onto dual layer DVD discs. Is this possible? DVD movies are on dual layer discs, so shouldnt I be able to just direct copy?

Btw, the sole purpose of this would be to backup my current movies...nothing more.

sure...................lol

i'm not to sure of what you mean of direct copy but if you have dual layer and the dvd you want to copy is dual layer then you can just rip it and burn it as is, i have to decrease quality and cut out languages to make it fit on a normal dvd, you wont' have to do that.

you'll still need software to get it done, try looking at dvd shrink

For dual layer stuff, I use DVD Decrypter.

Basically master an ISO file using DVD Shrink to control/include/exclude what I want, and then use DVD Decrypter to make the backup copy of it onto disc. I find that Decrypter has a better and more thorough verification than Nero which is what DVD Shrink defaults to on my system for burning.

You can also go straight from your reader to your writer, but I've coastered a handful of data backups that way (the drives are on seperate IDE Channels) so I just go to hard drive then out again to disc to play things safe.

You should be able to use Nero and ,ake your copy. I would try first at a slower burning speed, also make sure your system has a good defrag ran first and after. I've been able to make back ups just fine.... ;) yeahMun.
