Hey all ,
Well I got my Zalman 7700 installed and wow it looks awsome but I am a little concerned because on boot up I get a CPU FAN ERROR and I am not sure why. I called Zalman and spoke with a tech gave him some running numbers as far as what my system was heated to and he said it was very good but he wasnt sure about the error. I am running a Asus A8V with Cool N Quite enabled and have made no changes in the bios. It is all hooked up right and I am wondering if the fan isnt getting enough voltage on start up. Another thing is the fan should maxx out at 2000 RPM and the highest I can get it is 1700. did I do something wrong? Any help would be appreciated

I know you said everything was connected correctly but there are two fan headers close to the cpu socket, double check and see if it is hooked to the one above the CPU socket, not the one between the chipset and CPU.
Page 2-10 in the manual. http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/a8v-deluxe/e1642_a8v_deluxe.pdf
Its an easy mistake to make, I did it all the time on one of my old IWill boards.

Thanks for the reply, Yes.. I have it connected to the upper header marked cpu fan. It has a lead that splits off and goes to the throttle control for fan speed and it is wide open and I am maxxing at 1750 RPMS the tech at Zalman says it should maxx at 2000.
I am wondering if it not getting enough voltage at boot up which might mean I need to go back into bios :( and look around again. Heh theres alot in there that I havent the slightest clue to ROFL. Wonder if I go back to the defaults if that might make a differance? Hmmmm the only thing I have done in there is disable Sata and Promise as I am not useing them right now and I enabled Cool N Quite.

I have the 7000Cu and had the smae problem - I went into my BIOS (Asus P4PE Award) and under hardware monitor, I set the speed to "full speed" for all fan control. went from 1400rpm to 2200rpm as a result and it boots fine without issue anymore.
at 2200rpm, I still can't hear the fan, so it's still reasonable. My friend has the 7700 and it sounds (or lack of) the same as mine at full speed.

this is a long shot but have you tried disabling cool n quiet function?

Can you take the throttle control out of the mix and hook the fan lead directly to the mobo? I have done this with CNPS7xxx series coolers and everything runs fine...
I wish I could see your rig in person so I could help you disable all the unneccessary stuff in the BIOS...maybe in another thread we could go through it a little at a time.

Thanks all for the replys yes I have disabled CNQ and my temps rise rather fast and I get leary as my gear is new and dont have alot to replce it with :). My Fan unit is quite and I really like that. I am hoping that 2000 rpm is enough to keep it cool ????
Joeman,
I will make a thread a bit later and give you list of all the settings. Thanks for the help all of you. I am going to take the fan control out of the mix and see what that does this cpu fan error is getting irritating :(

Is there a setting in the bios to adjust the alarm speed of the fan? I would check my manual as a reference but it is misplaced (hoping my kid hasn't taken it for drawing material :bonk: )

I resolved the cpu fan error by taking JoeMans suggestion and removing the fan speed control out of the loop and going straight to the MB with with the connector, and I gained a bit of RPM. RPM is now running at 1890 and fluxuating ..probably due to Cool N Quite. Idleing at 32C right now and MB is at 26C
I will keep an eye on the fan speed and temps for a while until I am confortable with them. I ran a game (BroodWars) to see what kind of temps I came up with and even with Cool N Quite running it shot up to around 60C under load.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions, JoeMan if you read this post I am gonna go start a new thread for help with Bios settings
