I posted this over in the ABX Memory forum but thought I would post here for too.
So far I have not been able to get a pair of the OCZ3700el Gold to go above 222mhz 1:1 on my board stable at 2,3,3,7 timings. By stable I mean that either 3Dmark2001 crashed or was obviously unstable and games displayed instability and artifacts. This is regardless of vcore, vdimm, relaxed settings and Bios versions.
The 1st pair were not “matched” in a dual pack and threw errors in MemTest86. They were RMA’d with no hassles by my supplier Vibe Computers. Thanks Tim.
The 2nd batch was a dual pack and could not pass the 222mhz but is good to 254fsb 5:4 at 2.75vdimm, MaM and Turbo enabled at 1.58 vcore. They are still good to 262fsb with more vcore although I have not had Prime95 stability there yet at 1.6 vcore. I have not jacked vcore beyond that for the sake of benchmarks alone.
I received the 3rd batch direct from OCZ to test with “no strings attached” as my supplier did not have retail RMA replacements available. Unfortunately, they did not prove better than the 2nd batch and could not hit better than 246fsb stable at 5:4. What has been interesting is that I had no MemTest errors at 233mhz 1:1 in tests#5 and 6 after more than 200 loops each with either the 2nd or 3rd batch.
At this point I am thinking it is the mainboard and an RMA will tell. Prometheus, BigToe ( aka Tony ) and others suspect that too. CrocHammer still wants 250fsb 1:1 or close to it. I know others have achieved this with their OCZ3700Gold and the same mobo.
For those that asked, I did not go for the Corsair 3500c2 dimms because I did not see evidence that they could do much better than 225 ( 450ddr ) although maybe at slightly better timings. They were also more $’s.
As far as OCZ service from my experience. OUTSTANDING!!!!
I could not have asked for more. They are very quick with replies and suggestions and OCZ had a test batch to me in less than 24hours FedEx’d to my door. Thanks Bhulinder.
