Originally the older revs of the A7N8X Deluxe didn't support the new 400FSB Bartons. But according to the Asus website, the new 1004 BIOS for the 1.x revs supports the 400FSB Bartons. I'd like to get a 3200+/400 Barton, but I want to make sure it will work in my motherboard. Has anyone actually tried it yet?

The 1.x boards support the 200 Mhz FSB with a BIOS update, like you said. However, since they were made before 200 Mhz CPU's existed, the hardware has not been tested and guaranteed to work at that speed. To my knowledge, there are some that can't run stable at 200, but many do. The Revison 2.x boards are the ones that have been tested and known to run stable at 200 Mhz.

yes yes...

the older rev 1.x boards ... abit, asus, epox all have issues running 200 mhz stable w/o a vdd mod...

i'd say just get a 2.0 board :)

My brother-in-law was jealous of my rig so he had to try and one-up me. He got the A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0 and PC3200 DDR and immediately ran his 2500+ at 200MHz FSB with the AMD retail HSF and the AMD TIM. His temps went way too high (56C) so he dropped FSB back to 166 until he gets a better HSF. I had my rev 1.04 up to 200MHz FSB but started to feel uncomfortable even though my temps weren't bad.:smash:

So is the A7N8X Deluxe based on the Ultra 400 (updated nForce2) chipset? I just built a rig for my friend with one in it and was hoping to try out the "new?" chipset and see how it handles over 200 FSB. Thanks.

I don't think there's really an "Ultra 400" chipset... I think they just changed the name... mine's a Revisoin 2.0, so it's an "Ultra 400" board... but it's not called that since i bought it a month or so ago... I can run a 230 FSB easily though... only problem is getting my RAM to do it

I figured they just optimized the chipset for higher FSB's. 230 FSB would be just perfect for my friend. He loves to use memory bandwidth. He runs five or six The Sims Online clients at one time and alt-tabs back and forth between them. Hopefully we can make those alt-tabs instant. :D

The Revision 2.0 boards are most likely the same as the previous 1.x boards... just tested and guaranteed to work at a 200 Mhz FSB

I can't recommend the A7N8X 2.0 for the reason.I sold a friend a 1700+ the newer 1.5V chips.Well, with this mobo you are limited to 1.75V on these new CPU's.I had it at 2.4GHz stable on 1.8V-1.85V.He was bummed out about it.My epox with the C1 northbridge did 230FSB out of the box,and I had all the vcore I wanted and other tweaks.

I guess that's sort of a downside... the voltage... but I don't like to take them past 1.750 volts anyway, so it doesn't matter to me... mine'll go to 1.850 though cause the default on mine is 1.650

Another major downside with the A7N8x Deluxe Rev 2.00 boards are the bad bios chips. There are load of us owners (myself included) that are ending up with bad bios chips. I have a new one on order from Asus, I hope it works. If it does, I will be returning the old bios chip for reflashing so that I have a backup.

I like my A7N8X. When I bought this board, the Epox wasn't available (it was out two weeks after...) I haven't had any troubles with it. From an 1800 to 2100 to 2500. All worked great.

I wonder if the bad BIOS chips are coming from a certain retailer, like maybe a bad batch got shipped to Newegg or somethin. Or maybe somehow they got damaged during shipping to a certain location. Cause mine works perfectly fine.

I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the supplier because this is a problem with the rev 2.00 boards-haven't seen this happen with the older boards. I'm going to test adding two RAM sticks to the board because another person claimed that the board is sensitive to needing two sticks. I find that odd but might as well try-I have nothing to lose. Still waiting for my bios chip. :(

I didn't want to start a new thread so I'll see if I get any ideas here. My A7N8X dlx. seems to report temps in BIOS just fine, or at least what I expect them to be. AsusProbe 2.20.7 shows my temps at 40-44C all the time. I cannot get MBM5.0 to show anything but 32. What is another good monitor proggy for this board?

If AsusProbe is right, then I am doing great with my lapped retail HSF (currently 44C at full load.) and I can start playing with FSB O'C.

At 2.08 Ghz I'd say that's a fairly normal temp. The heatsinks that ship with XP2500's are leaps and bounds better than the crap they shipped with older T-Bred models. I'm running at 2200 Mhz @ 1.75 volts and hitting 48 C in Prime 95 with an SK-7 heatsink.

And so much quieter. I wish my MP2400s were as quiet which they are almost but the XP2500s are quieter. :)

I put the side cover back on my machine and my temps are up to 52C. I guess I'll make sure everything is blown out, but I don't think that's going to help. I guess I will wait unitl my MCX comes in before I play with the FSB and vCore.

Hey bud.. I got it. I had to fix some settings up first but I am running at 200 fsb and my memory is too. Like you said the bios flash fixed my problems mostly... Now I need to mod my board with a fan on my nforce2 chip.... then I will be happy. I am running this thing at 12 multi and 200 fsb. It is really fast... xp 3200 to be exact.. and under full load with my sk7 and my ystech fan i hit 42 degrees c. Im happier than a pig in sh1t.... Thanks bud...

Actually an XP3200 is 11x200... maybe that's what you meant... but if you really are at 12x200, then that would be an XP3400 if such a thing existed.
