View Full Version : P4P800 vs IC7
The non deluxe versions of the p4p800 and IC7 cost about the
same here in Aus ($A230). I'm tossing up which one to get
with a 2.4C and get at least 250fsb. I'll be using Geil pc3700
dual channel memory.
p4p800 pros (for me)
- gigabit lan onboard (small bonus)
- very fast, especially at stock
- tolerant of a wide range of memory types
- good onboard sound (small bonus)
IC7 (for me)
- overclocks higher than p4p800 (good)
- no onboard lan (bad)
- finicky about memory (bad)
- NB fan issue (bad)
What is your opinion?

Well, both boards should do 250MHz FSB easily, if the chip can. The problem is, you'll most likely need to run the RAM:FSB ratio at 5:4. The IC7 will still have PAT at those speeds while the P4P800 will not.
So I guess what you're looking for, speed or features.

Between those 2 I say IC7.If you have the coin I would get the Asus P4C800-E.
Newer IC7s are coming out with a larger quieter NB - so that is a problem that's going away :)

actually
P4P800 costs AUD$209 at rkdatastore.com.au
IC7 costs AUD$242-245 from pluscorp.com.au with OCAU member discount got mine for AUD$242
IC7 bios is limiting 1:1 oc's to <255mhz right now and p4p800 bios updating is a tricky procedure according to bigtoe at abxzone.com
personally i'd wait for P4C800-E to drop to AUD$355-375
