View Full Version : IC7 down, but not out. *Update* - It's alive!

Well, after wondering why my system kept hardlocking after 30mins, I decided to open up my side panel, and low and behold my MCH heatsink popped out.

Argh, luckily nothing fried, and the AS2 crept only slightly and not all over the place. The hs was resting on top of my video card.

Two of the four loop hooks popped out (both on the ram side), but they are still intact. Time to buy a new tube of Krazy glue. LOL. Krazy glue isn't conductive is it? Hehe.

Operation already under way, just need to go get some glue.

For all you Zalman northbridge hs modders, be warned, file down the edges to the same height as the original IC7 nb heatsink or this will happen. I'm hoping the glue will be strong enough so I don't have to file down mine further. It's about 3mm higher than the original heatsink, but honestly, there didn't seem that much tension on the brackets, as I could rotate the heatsink easily.

Wish me luck.

this is why i removed the original HSF as soon as i got the board.

the Thermaltake Tiger1 is a nice cheap silent replacement.

sorry for your bad luck :(

The Tiger 1 is a nice piece, it also works on the P4C800-E Deluxe. . . .

Why don't you resolder the hooks.

Well, looks like the Krazy glue is permanently holding. Non-conductive as well, so it's better than what it was before.

Soldering would have been riskier with all the motherboard traces around the pins holding the hooks.

It's back up and running as usual, even filed down my Zalman to reduce the stress on the hooks.

I once mixed crazy glue and AS grease. It worked fine.
