bah! thats pay software :(

ive been reading up on this.
it seems as tho MS has done something to the KB code to not allow easy remapping (they concider it a security risk to remap keys for companies that like to monitor keystrokes)

so as it stands right now ~ i am not able to play any games due to this stupid problem. if i cant figure out how to fix this i will have to go back to windows98.

i cant believe ive come this far to be stopped by a gad damn KB bug!

IMHO: this is BS and yes im ****ed (angry) :smash:

Thugs,
What games are you playing that don't allow you to re-map from within the game? I'm not being sarcastic here just curious, must be older games? Pinball?

its not the game that needs remapping, its windows.

games will automaticly disable the alt+tab combo in Win98 ~ in WinXP they cant disable that combo, and it interferes with gameplay.

Maybe you can somehow use that to figure it out, I dunno. Best I have found so far.

I found lots of solutions if you are into programming.

Seems what you say holds true. Microsoft doesn't want people to be remapping keys in Windows XP.

ive narrowed this down to a "alt+tab" key problem.

it either doesnt work or it becomes a sticky key. (sticky keys are disabled)

i need a XP fix or a hack ~ anyone have any ideas? :smash:

I looked around and didn't find much.

What EXACTLY do you need to do? The games you play dont have enough flexibility to map the keys you like to use to a game function?

win98 automaticly disables all alt+tab functions during gaming.

winXP does not, and there seems to not be any way around it.

Hmm. I like alt-tab. I use it to bail out of a game for a few if I need to do something else.

I take it you use the alt & tab keys for game controls and are unexpectedly switching tasks. I can see where that would be a problem.

Doing some more searching now on disabling Alt-Tab.
Look here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/02/09/CQA/default.aspx). Some developer made an app to do it. maybe send him a nice email and he will send it to you. There are a few more hits I'm looking at.

well yea, but obviously there are no other tasks to switch to ;)
tab doesnt work correctly cause of this.

someone made me an app ~ it didnt work :(

Hate to ask, but changing your gaming keys is not an option I suppose.....

What do you use tab for? I'm a pretty standard WSAD, space to jump, c to crouch kind of guy.

There is an answer out there somewhere for this.

changing my keys is not possible.
ive been using these keys since my DOS days.
there is no way to use the kb the way i do in another area of the kb either.

then again why should i have to?
a key is a key right?

WinXP: wrong!

;)

remember that these same games are able to disable alt+tab in Win98 but not in XP, that should tell ya something right there.

Understood. There has to be an alt - tab disabler out there. I came up with a few hits on Goggle with

disable xp alt tab
