I have been given the approval to buy a new laptop for work to help in my 3dcadd presentations.
What I have coming....
p4m centrino 1.6ghz
1024mb of DDR-sdram
i855 mobo
60gb 5400rpm HDD
What I am wondering is anyone interested in a comparison or review of this machine??? I am going to run same os as my desktop pc and run same apps. What I am going to be looking at is the speed of the laptop to say my p4 desktop at stock 2.4b with pc2700 speed. Many wonder how fast these centrinos are and I have heard a 1.6 is to be compared to a 2.4ghz p4 in many apps so I am going to find out....
Let me know if ppl have some test they would like me to run!!!

id like to see that centrino in your desktop oced to 3.2ghz :deviltail
ok seriously, how about the centrino vs your 2.4b @ 1.8ghz?
centrino is 100fsb correct?
this will show us what that extra cpu cache can do :chit:

I will have to check on the 100fsb thing....The mobo is the i855 chipset so I will have to look at the total specs. Is it not DCDDR??? Is it 400fsb,533fsb??
Sounds likea good test if that is what it turns out to be....Anu other thoughts Thugs???

You are right Thugs!!! Also looks like my ram will be pc2100 (266ddr). They offer 333ddr but in the pm version of the i855 chipset only.
Here's the link to Centrino info (http://www.intel.com/products/mobiletechnology/centrino/index.htm?iid=ipp_dm_bttn+details&)
So take my 2.4b reduce down to 1.8 with 100fsb and run my memory with the 3:4 ratio for 266ddr and then see how cache effects performance???
Centrino 1.6ghz (400fsb) w/ 266ddr
vs
p4a 1.8ghz (400fsb) w/ 266ddr
vs
p4b 2.4ghz (533fsb) w/ 266ddr
vs
p4b 2.4ghz (533fsb) w/ 333ddr
vs
p4b 3.24ghz (720fsb) w/ 450ddr
could be interesting....

yep thats what i had in mind ~ single out the cache, keep mhz as close as possible. then boost the 1.8a (2.4b) til it matches the centrino performance.
that way you could say something like "the centrino toasted the 1.8a ~ i had to overclock the 1.8a to Xghz to match the centrino performance".
that will tell us exactly what the extra cache is worth from both directions.
gluck w/it!
