I have been given the approval to buy a new laptop for work to help in my 3dcadd presentations.
What I have coming....
p4m centrino 1.6ghz
1024mb of DDR-sdram
i855 mobo
60gb 5400rpm HDD
What I am wondering is anyone interested in a comparison or review of this machine??? I am going to run same os as my desktop pc and run same apps. What I am going to be looking at is the speed of the laptop to say my p4 desktop at stock 2.4b with pc2700 speed. Many wonder how fast these centrinos are and I have heard a 1.6 is to be compared to a 2.4ghz p4 in many apps so I am going to find out....
Let me know if ppl have some test they would like me to run!!!

yeah i have a centrino 1.4 ( wasn't worth it to spend the extra like 400 dollars for 200 mhz) and all i can say is that it is pretty darn fast...
my 2.5 ghz tbred does seti@home w.u.'s on average of 2:15 ish...
the 1.4 ghz centrino does seti@home w.u.'s on average of 2:35 ish...
not bad for a 1.4 ghz processor huh?
the 1 meg of L2 cache helps a lot...
and i think the 1.6 centrino is at least equivalent to, if not faster than a 2.4 ghz p4....
anyway...
imagine... 3.4+ ghz with 1 meg of L2...

yup yup Centrino's are fast 1.6ghz is equivalent to 2.5ghz from benchmarks! And by 1Q/2Q 2004 1.8-1.9ghz centrinos will be out and 2.0ghz centrinos later with 2MB L2 Caches!
i think the usual set of benchmarks would be nice to compare the desktop to the lappie :)

Well we just bought a 1.3ghz centrino with only 512mb of ddr 40gb HDD without a few other options 3 months ago and now I got the 1.6ghz with 1gb of ram and 60gb HDD for only 250more total...I think it was worth it....

for a college student who only uses his laptop for excel, internet, word and maybe some light gaming... 200 mhz for $300+ wasn't worth it :)

But then again, couldn't you have saved some money not even getting a centrino?:p
