View Full Version : My new job as oczguy2
From Monday 28th July I will be available to help you with problems regarding OCZ products.I will be testing all the major boards with ALL modules and I will know all the tricks you need to get the best from your ram. This will however take a little time but I will post info here and link to OCZ when needed.
My position is part time to begin with, although as you know both abx and BE are my home forums so I will be online most of the time.
Thanks.
Tony
BT, that is excellent news. It's always nice to see hard work pay off for some one.

Tony,
Maybe I'll have the privilege here of making the First Official Advice Request of you in your new position... and assuming you are the one FKA "Prince" (oops, meant "Bigtoe"):) that I've seen on ABX it's great that someone with your range of expertise is available for consultations!
Anyway, next week I am planning a new build with a P4C800E, with either a 3.0 or a 3.2 P4. While I intend to pursue some moderate OCing my goal is not to brag about high Sandra scores but actually push up frame rates in games. From the results I saw in some review somewhere, the two don't necessarily go together, and in fact loose-timed, higher FSB systems sometimes look way better on Sandra etc. but actually have lower framerates and DMark 2001 scores than a lower FSB system with tighter mem timings. So my Q1 is: given these needs am I better going with the Platinum 3500 or the Gold 3700? I am trying to run a reasonably quiet system (Zalman 7000, Silenx PSU, Sonata case, possibly a Zalman 80 on a Sapphire 9800 Pro (depending on the Pro's fan noise), and while the case should be fairly cool with 2X120 fans, the system has to be rock stable for work purposes so I would guess I don't want the heat of a 250+ FSB. Or is extra heat minimal if you re not overvolting?
Q2: If you do recommend the Gold over the Platinum, up here in Toronto the Quad Pack of Gold 3700 (and the 2X512 Gold 4000) are MIA - can only get the dual-channel matched pairs of 2X256 Gold. Would I be safe buying 2 sets of these for 1 Gig total as long as each set went into its own L/R bank? I would guess that tolerances would be better for tiny differences in timing between A (LR) and B(LR) versus within a pair (L vs. R)....
Thanks,
Brent

Does this mean the Avator of that ugly, and I mean ugly toe will no longer be splatted all over some excellent memory reviews?

At 233+fsb i would say get the gold, it will run 2-3-3-6-4 upto 240fsb 2.85V and be rock solid. This would suit the 3C more than the 3.2C maybe although im unsure how far 3.2C's are clocking on air.I would however say getting a quad pack would be safer than 2 dual packs, but it should still do the speeds your looking for with ease...
