Ok guys, I may just be a n00b at this whole google thing, but I am looking to try my hand at making a NB cooler. Only problem is, I don't know where to get copper blocks. I have an aluminium block ready to go, just wanted to put a copper sheet under it. (better heat absorbtion) I can't seem to find the copper sheets either. Only the craft type, but that is to thin. Anyone know of a good place?
I did find some copper flashing(roofing material) If all else fails I could cut it up :thumb:
On a side note, I have an NF7-S mobo with an SP-97 HS installed. To the best of my knowledge I would be stuck using Iceberq 4 or something similiar, due to the size of the SP-97. I am wondering if you take a swiftech NB cooler and trim the pins down, would it still be efficient? I am looking at all possibilities for this, other than water right now. That is a lil out my price range. So any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated !!!!

No problem, they've got a ton of raw material type stuff on that site, but it ain't all cheap and you usually have to buy by the sheet, spool, metric ass-load, etc.
As far as the NB cooler... Someone'll pop in here shortly and give you some info I bet

I could get some copper disc for @$20. 3'' dia. should be enough to cover the NB, if I go that route with it.
I was actually thinking of trying to make a NB cooler on the same design as the swiftech. I'll have to find some thin dia. aluminium rods though. Jeesh, I would have never thought it would be this much trouble, trying to make such a small cooler.

I think soft aluminium all thread would work great too. I'm thinking the threads would act somewhat like fins.....
Never seen a sifty up close ,so not sure what they use. All thread or springs???

Sounds like you need to find a machine shop that has 3" diameter copper rod that they will cut off a hunk for you but I am not sure of too many shops that would carry this for (not sure what they would do with this). They might have Bronze or Brass rod that they woudl carry to make bearings. I am not sure if it is as good as copper for conducting heat..
Home Depot carries small diameter aluminum rods (& I think they have copper & brass rods as well). They have a selection of small metal stock :thumb: .

Well most jigs used for welding are brass. Some of the main reasons are , slag or weld will not stick to it. {it is all cast brass} It is also a bad conductor of heat. Not really sure about the bronze though. Never thought about using it. I am beginning to think silver is as cheap as copper, and silver is a pretty darn good conductor of heat.

I wonder how well the nickel silver (18%) copper would perform? I know silver is great, just not sure about nickel.
