Attached is the image of an error that I'm beginning to get reasonably frequently. I have a 100 gigabyte WD100JBRTL partitioned into two drives C & D. When the error occurs the HD light comes on and stays on and the system freezes requiring a hard reboot. Does this sound like a drive going bad or an IDE controller issue? TIA

The only time I had a problem vaguely like this, my video card (Radeon 9500) was sharing the power lead with my hard drive. Apparently, the two were fighting for power just enough to have problems. I looked over at ABXZone and noticed that you have a 9700 Pro listed, but I do not know if that is what you are using in this rig or what it is sharing its power cable with, if anything. Anyway, the problem I had may be completely unrelated to yours, but at least it is something to look at, and it bumps your question. :) Good luck.

had the same problems with my promise ATA100 and highpoint rocketraid404 attached hard drives thought it could be the cabling or controller, but never thought to check if my power supply connectors would be the culprit

does it make a difference as to what shares which psu power connector for say 520-550W psus ?

Hi eva2000,

Sorry for the slow reply, I have not had a chance to check in recently.

I have not noticed a difference between the different power connectors on my PSU (Antec TruePower 430). The only difference seems to come from the total load (for lack of a better term) on any given lead. That is, I think the limiting factor may be how much current draw a given lead can support before the voltage starts to sag on that lead.

If there are not enough leads to go around, I will only put one high power device on a lead and try to keep the others sharing it to a minimum. In my case, my video card shares it with two case fans, my two hard drives share a lead, my DVD and CDRW and 3.5 floppy drives share a lead, and I have three more case fans on the "Fan Only" connectors. I hope that helps.

Had the same problem as Cogar with my Antec TC550. I did make sure to use the connectors that are not for fans but I could only get the drive to work properly by making sure that PSU was connected to the 9500 Pro with a separate lead from the PSU.
