I vowed to not get a CRT because I want my desk space back. Anyhoo my IBM P96 is dying. I went to Best Buy and got a 17" TFT (it's the most I can afford :( ). This thing is expensive, it's a Sony SDM-HS73, it has 500:1 ratio with 250 nits brightness and 20ms response time. Here's the rest of the specs: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=TOlcKONeaGFcI9xAk0pWI6xTGO8yucXQumI=?CatalogCategoryID=wzYKC0%2eNkdIAAAD2LMMRbIkn&Dept=cpu&TemplateName=item%2fsy_item_b&ProductID=pDMKC0%2eNxoUAAAD231sRbIkr&ContentItemPage=

If the monitor fails to deliever I can at least return it in 14 days. I hate losing 1" of real estate on my screen but I'm hoping I will not notice.

very nice monitor :chit:

i too went from a nice 19" crt to a 17" lcd.....

it wasnt at all what i expected.
i figured smaller screen, LCD, low refresh rates, 1280x1024 native res, gotta suck right?
WRONG!
ill never go back to a crt again.
youre gonna love it :-)

Well that monitor did not pan out and I'm back to using the P96 CRT. I have a NEC MultiSync LCD1830 at work that is hooked up to a miserable nVidia TNT2 card but the Sony I tried hooked up to my ATi 9500 Pro shown a problem that the NEC does not have. I could see the modulation and I could not change from 60Hz to 75Hz which was claimed to be possible to get with the Sony (the NEC gives me more than 60Hz to use but I actually use 60Hz on it because there is no modulation). The brightness on the Sony was much better than on my old NEC (it's approaching 1.5 years of age) but I'm confused about how the brightness is affected. With the NEC you can see a little bit of how the screen is affected by how you move from one side to the other with the screen but with the Sony it was very noticeable. The other strange thing is that it had one bad pixel as does the NEC-am I cursed to get one bad pixel? And the final straw was my wife's reaction. I think I will just wait a little longer and hope that the P96 continues to work ok.

I am in the process of getting the NEC 1760NX in black.A friend of mine just bought one and loves it.Has a 16ms response time,DVI which is nice and received excellent reviews on the net.I am running a 21" Dell Trinitron CRT right now.:)

I too went from a 15' (viewable) to a 15' LCD (great deal, $100 new in the box IBM T56a!), I then tried a 17' (viewable) CRT and couldnt hack it, went back to the LCD...then upped recently to a Viewsonic 17' LCD...LCD's are so much better!

Nice :D.I am on my computer constantly.Real reason I switched to LCD was its easier on the old eye balls.Plus I get headaches from this big 21" tube CRT.I bought a JVC 48" Widescreen projection TV and its easier on the eyes despite the size than my 32" JVC tube TV was.I got a great deal on the TV so I bought it,same with the LCD.I was debating between the Samsung 171V,sony HS73 and this other Viewsonic which are pretty good.I checked out some reviews on the NEC after a buddy recommended it.The 16ms responce,DVI and great picture had me sold on it.The others didn't compare.:)

I also went for the LCD to reduce eyestrain. It does make a big difference. I don't miss my 19" CRT at all.

In case you didn't know, the 1760NX does not come with a DVI cable. It was not a big thing for me since monitors normally come with a 6' cable. I need a 10' so I always have to buy one anyway.
