Whats' the difference between:

a 3000+ clawhammer and 3000+ newcastle versus a 3000+ Winchester?

3000+ Clawhammer = 2GHZ + (edited to reflect 512kb not 1 Meg) 512 KB L2 cache (130nm process) and is socket 754
3000+ Newcastle = 2 GHZ + 512 KB L2 cache (130nm process) and is socket 754

3000+ Winchester = 1.8Ghz +512kb L2 cache (.90 nm process) + is now socket 939

That's all it is in terms off difference, right ? ( so say some reviews on websites)

Euuhhh....buzzer sound wrong......Winchester = Hyper Transport speed of 2Ghz, not 1.6Ghz.

Socket 754 and 940 = Hyper Transport version 1.x ( 800Mhz X 2 = 1.6Ghz)
Socket 939 = Hyper Transport version 2.0 (1000Mhz X 2 = 2.0Ghz)

I wonder why AMD did not shot for the stars and use the 1.4Ghz x 2 .... clock rate...? Probably sounds easier then actually is to do.

um...

if i remember correctly there is no such thing as a 3000+ clawhammer with 1 meg of L2 that runs at 2.0 ghz

there are 3000+ clawhammers with 512kb of L2 running at 2.0 ghz (1/2 cache disabled)

i think... :)

They could be wrong.....

Edit: They probably are wrong, reviewing this document from AMD and no mention of an 3000+ with 1 meg of L2
