Yeah, I'm thinking of selling of my H2O system and just goig with air cooling. I'm looking at the 800U (99% as good as the 900U but a lot less $$s).

I plan I hooking this up with a Panaflow 80mm H1A (40cfm, 32dbA).

Any comments??

I have the SLK-900 and it is awsome. The reviews show the 800 just as you said, 99% as effective. I'd say go for it. . . . .

Don't forget to use some AS3. . . .

Thanks hawk! And, yep, already have AS3 :)

Hey hawk, what fan are you using and what temps (idle/load) are you getting??

TIA!

Also the fan is from the Thermatake kit, FB123. . . The fan is 92 mm(24 CFM)4 pin Quiet Case fan

I took a look, and the price difference between the SLK-800U and 900U aren't much, ~$5?

I think the advantage of the SLK-900U is not that it's a better cooler per se. It's the ability to mount 90mm fans that are quieter but perform as well as a louder 80mm fan.

Yes, the "advantage" is to mount 92mm fans. I don't know where you got you numbers, but I've been seeing price differences between the 800U and 900U of $10-12...

Great temps, using the 800U and 40cfm panaflow I should do even better since the static pressure will be much higher.

The only plus (aside from lower noise) that I see with a 92mm fan is that the overshoot exhaust from the fan (since the HS is narrower than the fan) will add extra cooling to other mobo components.

TY!

Yeah skully, I may just do that - I'm getting tired of all the paraphanalia that I have around and inside my systems :o I may sell off my 2 24x7 folding rigs as well. I'm trying to simplify.

I like this SLK800 heatsink...Im using this (http://www.svc.com/80comaneledc.html) fan (30~cfm/25db) and my idle temps are at 26/27'c...I just got the OS installed so I havent done any stress yet..but that seems cool(er) than usual

Yeah, those do seem like really good temps :) I'll use a 80mm Panaflo M1A I have lying around doing nothing.

Yeh, I was thinking the same thing...I checked the mounting...its flat and snug...

Hope its installed right:>

FAN
SLK800u
[side parts that screw onto the heatsink from underneath]
motherboard
thick plastic sheet
metal backing plate

I ran 2xPrime95 for about an hour and it went to 46...but once I stopped Prime95, it cooled down VERY fast:confused:

I have seen CPU cooler than Northbridge on my system. 91/96F. Currently the same temp right now. Of course the CPU is
very actively cooled, the Northy is passively cooled. dbwillis , how cold is it in your house? About 75F here, those are some chilly temps you have.....

Its 70'F in the condo...

vcore set at 1.60...13x250...Im gonna spend the day tomorrow stressing the CPU with an OC...

Rechecked the heatsink and its on there flat as can be...also very snug.
the thermal paste was very thin and looked to be even when I removed it..

I reran Prime95x2 and after 1.5+ hrs, it was at 42'c

Heres some screenies:>

Idle @ 250fsb (www.thefiles.dns2go.biz/odd/idle-250.jpg)
Load @ 250fsb (www.thefiles.dns2go.biz/odd/load-250.jpg)

Vcore is at +100 (1.6v) in BIOS...like 1.62 actual and dips not too much at all...

trying 265fsb

They are...and I removed 2 rear case fans as well from the previous setup...!

I rechecked and it is correct...I used the thermal probe from the ThermalTake XAserII case and put it under the CPU....taped to the flat part as best I could....temp was 1'c higher than the HW Doctor and Aida32 read...and went up and down as fast as those apps did...guess I got low low temps...fans only a ~35cfm one too...
