Interesting little article that brings to light the posible negative effect of Oc'ing the GPU, no not in terms of blowing it ..but rather as to the real performance gain/loss.

Anyone care to comment or better yet try the test and see if they have the same results :?:

yea i saw that.

keep in mind the hardware he's using, and he never mentions what he's using for a benchmark.
even so ~ this would need to be valid (at least 70% valid) over the course of testing many benchmarks!

its worth looking into tho, if you feel the need.

I think the equipment he is using makes it a more pronounced difference than you would find in the new, or even last gen cards. I have found that my framerates will dip slightly in the harder parts of a benchmark like 3dmark2001 as I approach the limits of my gpu. I especially notice it in the second test, and the high detail lobby test.

I noticed that with my "old" 9800 Pro. Even with a VGA Silencer on it keeping it nice and cool, if I overclocked more than 10 MHz on the core, performance started dropping.

3DMark (all of them) is notorious for that.

UT2k3 benchmarks went down as well IIRC.
