So that's a malaysia packaged week 17 correct?
it says 1.525V max...
SL6WF
:)
yay!!!
packaged date: 6/3/03
time to throw this baby into my new ic7 as well! fun fun :)
Can't wait to hear your results. . . . My 2.4C was able to get into the 290's, but 288FSB is the max stable I was able to obtain. Not too shabby. . . . :yummy:

what are the normal temps supposed to be as well?
i'm reading the bios right now with my waterblock it says it's 48C idle!!! what the?
ThugsRook
07-18-2003, 02:38 PM
if you are running a C chip your only choice is NBS800.
that temp is pretty normal but a little high.
LastRide
07-18-2003, 02:45 PM
Yes NBS800 and yes thats a little high for water.I am around 40C with air cooling at stock speed.I think thats a good week.3.4-3.5GHz here I come:D .Set agp/pci to 66/33 fixed,DRAM ratio to 320 or 330 (it will show one or the other I think 330 with a 800FSB chip and 320 with a B chip.Set memory timings to relaxed 2.5/3/3/7 and for now just leave game accellerator all on auto. You can disable command per clock if you run into trouble. You can also disable the one above CPC which some people do.

You might have to use 3:2 (266) if you get up around 3.3GHz cause 5:4 might be too much for your ram that high.

ill start posting results here now
3.4 ghz @ 12 x 285 failed last night :( @ 1.55 volts
so i backed it down to 3.3 ghz @ 12 x 275 @ 1.55 volts and prime is chugging along just fine.
so far prime hasn't exceeded 53C's @ 100% load
idle temps are around 46C's
does my load temp sound just about right?
Wow is that right - 46C idle temp with H2O cooling
shimmishim
07-19-2003, 06:41 AM
yeah
idle temp is high
but how is my load temp?
it won't be running at idle anyway ;)
i seti@home for AT so.... it'll be running 24/7
oldfart
07-19-2003, 06:44 AM
Temps are fine. The IC7 is known to read higher than other boards. Your temps are ~ the same as what I have.
Edit....with H2O?? That does seem a bit high since that is a normal air temp.
Try 1.575 - 1.6 Vcore on the 285 FSB setup.
shimmishim
07-19-2003, 07:02 AM
:(
now i'm getting worried cuz everyone keeps saying it's high...
i dunno why it's high!!!
:( :( :(
argh argh argh
my temps were right on for water on my amd setup...
ThugsRook
07-19-2003, 07:34 AM
temps are not high.
water cooling is no better then air cooling on these chips ~ unless you chill the water.
many ppl gave up on water and went back to air.
:)
shimmishim
07-19-2003, 07:39 AM
oh interesting...
then what the heck am i doing with a 200 water setup when i could have a 50 dollar air cooling solution?
hehehe...
maybe it's time to sell off my watercooling as well and get a swiftech mcx4000 or a slk900!!!
:)
so that's interesting.. i'm gonna try putting on the stock cooler and see what my temps are like...
ThugsRook
07-19-2003, 07:41 AM
my temps at idle...
cpu = 45*c
board = 29*C
pwm = 32*C
my temps loaded.....
cpu = 63*c
board = 30*C
pwm = 46*C
shimmishim
07-19-2003, 08:16 AM
stock cooler
idle
cpu 55
system 30
pwm 39
seems a bit high don't you think?
shimmishim
07-19-2003, 08:32 AM
i think i like my wb better :)
it's up to 73 on 100% load with the stock cooler using seti@home
seems a bit high to me...
i'm gonna try my wb again and see what sort of temps i get with 100% load...

do you have any case fans? :-r

Here is my idle at 2.8 at 3.5GHz= 36/37C reported by Winbond.
Smart move LastRide - Windbond HWM gives the closest temps and voltages on current Abit boards (MBM is off for some reason).
shimmishim
07-19-2003, 05:38 PM
okay
well
went bafck to my waterblock
looks like the idle temp is around 46-47
and the max load temp is down now to 51
still better than the stock 73C
:)
i'm happy
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 02:23 AM
okay
load temps do not exceed 54.5C
idle temps still sort of high
and 3.4 ghz (12 x 285) @ 1.575 volts a go!
:)
shall i try 3.5 ghz now? ;)

so if prime errors 20 minutes into a test...
does that mean the voltage isn't high enough or is
there some other issue that causing the problem?
1 instance of prime will fail in ... 18 minutes
the other one will keep going...
hmm... interesting...
LastRide
07-20-2003, 08:45 AM
I have not tried running 2 instances of prime yet.I have no idea one failing and one not as to the reason for that.I would try raising vdimm or relax the memory timings a little more first if your running it real tight timings before adding vcore. In the end you might have to raise vcore to 1.6 depending on your settings you have now.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 08:56 AM
when 3.4 ghz failed at 1.55 volts, both instances of prime95 failed....
passed 2xprime95 @ 1.575
3.5 failed both at 1.575 and 1.6 but only one instance failed both times...
my mem timings are 2.5-3-3-7 and considering that i'm using a 3:2 divider.. it's weird that it keeps failing
anyway
maybe i've hit the fsb limit on the board?
i backed it down to 290 to see if it'll work with 1.6 volts..
LastRide
07-20-2003, 09:25 AM
I think you did hit the limit of the board.I can do 285 with one stick of ram but with 2 sticks 280 is my limit. Its going to take a new revision or newer boards to handle 290-300 FSB or over.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 09:26 AM
i hear the agp voltage effects how high you can get your fsb
i'm gonna try it out!
LastRide
07-20-2003, 09:28 AM
Do you mean raise the agp for higher FSB or lower it?.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 12:13 PM
i heard if you raise it it can increase the stability of your fsb
LastRide
07-20-2003, 02:34 PM
Did you try it and did it help you?.I tried that earlier but didn't help.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 04:50 PM
yeah raised my vcore to 1.65 and my agp to 1.65
now stable at 3.5 ghz :)
i think it was more the vcore than the agp
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 05:01 PM
yeah...
i don't think i want to go higher on my vcore...
i know that running 1.7 will actually be like 1.65 actual but it still feels risky considering SNDS can occur at 1.7 actual
anyway....
argh argh argh...
risk risk risk...
now that it's stable...
can someone tell me about GA and what sorts of setting i should use?
i read lastride post about how with GA on that the highest stable fsb will be less than what i have right now...
so any suggestions orhelp would be appreciated!
thanks
LastRide
07-20-2003, 05:15 PM
If you are stable at 3.5GHz at 1.65V thats good enough. You can't complain what you got out of your chip:) .You can also drop down to 1.6V at 3.4GHz which is pretty damn good also.As far as the GA is concerned try turbo first at the settings your on now.It might run turbo, chances are good. Then try street racer or F1 and see if the computer will boot.If not, lower your FSB to 270,260,250 and try.The problem is GA does something with the settings that isn't the same all the time.It could run one time and not the next time at higher FSB.Its like it gives random settings or something. It also sets your memory to tighter timings.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 05:17 PM
so i just turn it on to turbo or street racer or f1 ( i heard that street racer is actually the fastest) and leave everything else at auto...
is this correct?
LastRide
07-20-2003, 05:23 PM
yep thats right. It goes in order from slower to fastest.Starts off on turbo and goes faster from there.F1 is suppose to be the fastest.Remember to disabling CPC if that helps while trying the faster GA's.It might help you and it might not.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 05:27 PM
hehehe no work even on turbo...
but i'm trying 12 x 300 right now...
3:2 = 200 mhz finally on my ram... lol...
ThugsRook
07-20-2003, 05:45 PM
i dont think GA works with 3:2
leave it on auto and try and enable some of the 4 suboptions below it if it runs.
shimmishim
07-20-2003, 05:55 PM
yeah.. i decided i'm just going to wait on my new ram before i start messing with those settings... :)

i feel you...
i went through at least 10 tbred b's before i found one that could do 2.5 ghz!!!
i am amazed that i could find one that could do 3.5 with no effort at all :)
btw... i got mine from googlegear.com after hearing from some other forum that they had gotten a malay packaged 2.4C from them... so you may want to try them out as well!

10!!! So you could have bought 2 processors just with the RMA fees you paid
shimmishim
07-21-2003, 11:32 AM
no RMA fees :)
i sold it at AT forums for about.. 5-10 dollars less than i paid for each of them... :)
i've only RMA'ed a stick of ram and one board...
other than that.. no RMA's on processors for me!
Still that's ~75$ extra to get a good one
