I got my parts today, everything, except for the RAM and HSF...:( I had the bad luck of using a place that ships with Canada Post and as all you Canadians out there may know, Canada Post has been having some problems. Anyways, UPS shipped all the stuff in less than 2 days and the Canada Post stuff was shipped on Monday and still hasn't arrived.
Well, here's what I got:
P4 2.4C 3318A (Costa Rica, week 18) At least not a Phillipines.. heh
ASUS P4P800 DLX
Antec Sonata (cause I'm cheap)
CD-ROM
Floppy
Now, I'm waiting on the other stuff. Hopefully it'll get here today or I'll have to wait til Monday. :beat:
I'll post benches and what not whenever I get the system up. :D

Ok, I got it up and running and I've been drooling over it so much, I haven't had time to post here...:p
Now, there is one problem.
I can do 3.12GHz (260MHz FSB) and 5:4, 2-3-3-6, fully stable at 1.525V but then above that not even 1.65V will get me into Windows. It just doesn't want to boot. I tried 5:4 2.5-4-4-8 for timings, I've also tried 3:2 just for the heck of it and still no Windows.
I'm running the RAM in slots 1+3, so would that possible do anything?
And could it be the NB crapping out? The NB heatsink isn't even warm to touch which makes me think perhaps the contact with the die isn't good. (since other people have said the heatsink was quite hot) I'm gonna have to wait til Monday to get some ASIII on that, cause I don't have any rubbing alcohol at home...:o
So does anyone have any other ideas or did I just get a crappy chip..

I'm at 2.75V. I don't think it's the RAM since even 3:2 won't work and I've gotten the RAM to at least DDR400 2-3-3-6...
Guess just a crappy CPU.:o

I just saw the beta 1009 on the ASUS site, so I'm gonna go get that.

Hmmm... just reapplied thermal paste to both the CPU and removed the weird stale bubblegum like substance from the underside of the NB heatsink. I'm gonna go o/c and if I can do any better..

Here's some benches all at 3.12GHz (260MHz FSB). At least it still works at my fastest stable speed from before... I'll push it more now.

P4 2.4C 3318A (Costa)
Yep, Poop-Poop chip. My 2.4C is the same same codes. Originally I did get (267fsb) 3.2 with 1.675 but alas was not comfortable with the vcore so I have been sitting at (258fsb) 3.1 for several weeks. It is on an IS7, however. On a better note, I do have the HyperX3500 @ 2-2-2-5.
edit: I am going to go to our Fry's BM store tomorrow and get me another 2.4C OEM. Maybe they have some of those golden oem's like the 2.4b/2.53 chips. ;)

I wish I could walk out and get another chip, but with my location, it'd be more like drive 2 hours....

Well, I removed the foam ring and added a very thin layer of thermal paste. Hopefully this'll help out a bit. I'm glad I didn't destroy the NB when I put the HS back on..
I'll be back with results! :)

Running 260 default vcore and is testing stable, so far. I booted 275fsb but it took 1.675v but I have not tested that yet. I hate Costa Rica chips. :beat:

No, so far, only Retail Boxed 2.4Cs were overclocking better. Awhile back there were 2.4B/2.53B OEMs that overclocked like a mother. So now, we're just hoping the 2.4C OEMs might do the same. So far, bubkus.
Hey John, 260 at default ain't bad, but the fact it cannot go higher, well, that sounds about right for a regular 2.4C. Oh well, you know the game as well as anyone else. Right now, I'm constantly looking for Q320 or L317 batches at my local dealers, and hey, if you see any of these, you let me know! :)

Gah... damnit. Didn't help. Ah well, I'm content with my 3.18GHz....

Well, on a side note. My 2.8C L310xx is running smooth 3.3Ghz on 1.5625v (1:1) TwinMos PC3700 and my 2.6C L311xx is pumping along at 3.4Ghz on 1.60v (5:4) HyperX3500. :na:
The 2.4C's are 3318xx retail and 3317xx oem. I can get 3.2ghz but am leaving them at 3.1ghz with 1.5625vcore. I will still be on the prowl for that Golden 2.4C. :yummy:
The thing is: A person just does not feel like he has overclocked at all unless it's at least a 1Ghz OC. :(

Oh don't worry, I can do 3.18GHz now...:p
Thanks Thor! Too bad the local computer shops charge an arm and a leg for cpus, or I'd ask to comb through every one they had :)
