The topic of DVD+/-R media quality is already well covered at other forums so I'm hesitant to post this but...
So, I'm backing a bunch of stuff up tonight in preparation for a re-format. I've always been in the habit of checking my disk burns for readability and I had some problems tonight. The Imation DVD+R's I burned were taking ages to spin up and when they finally did I got CRC errors on certain files when I tried to open them. Just today I bought a 25 pack spindle of HP's at Staples, so I thought I'd give those a go. Same thing. The media code on both the Imations and the HP's is the same - CMC MAG F01. Pretty much universally known as being crap from what I've read. They've certainly been crap for me and my liteon 411S.
I switched to some Maxell's I got as payback from a friend and those burned fine.
I'm going to start doing a Burn+Verify from now on. It's like watching paint dry though...
