the cpu is easy...get a socket 939 3500. the mobo not sure yet, researching myself for the best overclocking one. use whats left from the £600 to get either an x800 pro or 6800GT.
for RAM go for the Ballistix stuff and buy direct from Crucial's website.

if you arent upgrading the gfx you could always pick up an fx-53 cpu or 3800 but thats being lavish imo. :thumb:

Here's what I priced out for you, including a high end video card, on Newegg for just under $1200 US:

PC3200 Platinum Rev2 - $286 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-890&depa=0)

MSI K8N Neo 2 Plat - $137 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-468&depa=0)

Athlon64 3400+ - $339 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-426&depa=0)

eVGA Nvidia 6800 GT - $389 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=14-130-203&DEPA=0)

With this setup, you'll be pretty set for a while!

first off the Neo 2 plat is a socket 939 mobo mate. :na:

2nd someone with cash to burn should ideally be going S939, where ive just headed from 754.

BAH my mistake. I know that the Neo 2 is a 939 board. I was trying to price out a 939 setup for him, but made a mistake on the CPU. Anyways, the Athlon 64 3500 is only a little bit more than the 3400 than I quoted earlier.

Athlon 64 3500 - $365 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-463&depa=0)

If yer talkin $1200 for a Mobo and Processor alone, then let it rip my brother. Here tis:

Processor:
AMD FX-53 $839 LET IT RIDE!!!!!!!
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-458&depa=0

and Mobos:
ASUS A8V Deluxe Rev.2 (with AGP/PCI locks) w/ VIA K8T800PRO chipset $133
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-510&depa=0
or
Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 NForce3 Ultra Chipset $205
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-254&depa=0

I have owned and run mobos from both companies so I can only vouch for these two brands. That still keeps you under $1200 for a mobo and proc alone.

Good luck manhota

WoW thats some nice **** guys and quick. im not gona do my GF card yet i only got it a month ago a bit of a mistake really need to get rid of it on ebay or somthing firts but
£600 ($1200) is just for the Pro and mobo,
and a extra £200 ($400) for ram. any left and sale of the 6800 will go towards a x800XT or 6800ultra or may be sum water cooler for the pro and see what OC i can get.

Joeman thx for the links bud and yes i agree money can buy happiness. lol i whish i had ur system. but then again i soon will have, with ur help.

Most likely you're not going to use all of the $1200 on the CPU and motherboard alone. That's a lot of money so I would put some of that towards some good quality RAM.

Just heard that AMD is coming out with 90nm procs. Not sure if these will be worth the wait...they might have the same heats issues as prescotts have and might need cool liquid cooling to get a good oc. See this article:
