Figured this was the best location to post this,.,,.,

I got a guy, I built him a PC long ago (P4S533/1.6A @ 2.13ghz)
He wants me to rebuild the PC and give it some updates,...
he wants 1gb DDR and 120gb hard drive
He also wants a router setup instead of the cable modem direct to PC :look:

This is his current setup :>
P4S533, 1.6A @ 133fsb, 2x256 Crucial 266, 40gb WD 2mb cache drive

I quoted him $118x2 for Corsair XMS3200 (2x512) and $86 for a Seagate 120gb ATA drive.
a Gigafast plain jane router is ~$30, so the total is $350ish

Now, i happen to have an IC7 and 4x256mb Corsair XMS3700 and a Seagate Sata 120gb drive.

I was thinking of giving the IC7, 4x256 XMS3700 and the 120gb Sata and Seagate plus the router to him for his P4S533, 2x256 Crucial and 40gb drive, plus $300

I think its a good deal, I can OC the XMS3700 to 250 @ 3-4-4-8 now...but PAT is disabled for 4 sticks.. :|
I did test them last night and they do 2-3-3-7 at 266 speeds  and to me, the parts are just spare.
Probably could OC the 1.6a a bit more on the IC7 as its got the AGP lock...plus then Id have the P4S533 and Crucial to play with,.,.

Whats your take?

Looks like a great deal for him. Why give him an IC7 for the P4S533?

They are getting a steal for $300. I would explain them this option that will give them a better overall machine and see if they will pay extra (you are throwing in better ram, a board and oc'ing it for them). This price is just the cost of parts and does not include your labour, right?

Yeh, thats just the parts cost, his brother is a general contractor (his brother was also an usher in my wedding)...so when I need some remodeling done..good deal will come my way....
I was giving him the IC7 so I could use the (4) DDR sticks...the P4S533 only has (3?) slots, so Id have to buy the 2x512 of XMS for him (hes stuck on getting Corsair XMS....tried to direct him to Ballistix...)
I figured if I sold the (4x256mb) XMS3700 and the IC7, Id get about $300, this way I get the $300 and his parts..
Maybe Ill give him the IC7, 4x256, 120gb Sata and the router for $360 and his parts...
Id rather sell him my parts and get the $$$, then buy the parts new.
(my motto is its always easier to sell something when someone wants it, then trying to sell it when you want too)

Well, I did do the upgrade for him, but I changed a few things around....

his old PC :> (XP Pro)
256mb DDR266 (Samsung TCB3)
Sis 645DX
WD 40gb
1.6A @ 133fsb

He also wanted a gaming PC for running a game server..so ... :D

his new PC :> (XP Pro SP2)
IC7
1.6a @ 150fsb (1.575v)
4x256mb XMS3700 (2.5-3-3-6 ~ spd)
120gb Seagate Sata drive
D-Link 10/100 NIC

His Game server :> (XP Pro SP2)
Sis 645DX (his old one!)
P4 2.8B (533fsb)
2x512 XMS3200
WD 40gb drive (his old one!)

DLink 4 port cable/dsl router.

I got his old Samsung DDR stick and $847 for the deal, good deal, no?

Sold him :>
1gb memory for the game PC (priced $118 for 2x512mb Corsair Xms3200, but put in 4x256) = $236
priced the same memory again for the game server, but used 2x512 XMS3200 I had on hand (CH5 stuff) = $236
priced $40 for a WD hard drive (I got his old one in trade up for the 120gb, then sold it back..) = $40
$80 for a mobo for the game server, but resold his Sis645dx back to him. = $80
Seagate Sata drive (he wanted IDE, because he had no Sata on the Sis mobo, but I was able to use Sata on the IC7) = $86
XP Pro = $50

It really cleaned out my spare parts pile !

Hehehe, good specs you've given him =)..i'd say the game server has a bit too much memory but hey, the ram will always come in handy when he decided to make it other than a game server ;)...

Yeh, its a bit overkill for him, but its all the memory I had on hand, otherwise Id have to buy him some and take less $$ in my pocket !
