Ati Control Center First Impressions...

Ok, My first impressions with this new software.......... dont have one yet, when i download the driver + control center, i could not install it.... no matter what i tried, now im in the process of downloading the stand alone pack... expect a full review later this afternoon, with the X800XT PE, and the Radeon 9800 Pro.

Ive used it and it looks ok to me, I still prefer the regular control panel. And kinda off track, does anyone have problems with the official ATi drivers? Since about 4.5 to the now 4.8 Im always getting VPU recovery problems, even if the computer is just sitting there. The Omega drivers work fine, but I just cant seem to use the official ATi drivers without my system crashing, anyone know why?

Android Vageta, we should probably move this to a new thread - but as to your comment about ATI drivers 4.5 - 4.8 stability, I have not had issues with them on my Gigabyte X800XT PE, nor on the ASUS AX800PRO before that, however, I have experienced frustration with my uncle's older ATI Radeon 9000 and those series of drivers you mentioned - what happens there is the drivers install okay but then upon reboot the Catalyst drivers ( his is a W2K Pro machine) recognize a Rage Theater Chip on his card and after attempting to install it BSOD!!! - I have had to revert him back to Cat 4.1's before the problem ceased to plague...

My theory (which is pure speculation) is that beginning around Cat 4.5 time and forward, ATI began really focusing on forcing the Rage Theater portion of the driver somehow because of many people trying to do that X800PRO to X800XT 12 to 16 pipe and BIOS flash Mod - people without the Rage Theater Chip on their PRO's who succeeded with the Mod may have found themselves hosed with a BSOD even if the DID succeed with the 16 pipe mod and flash to an X800XT...anyway, like I said...PURE SPECULATION...the flaw with my theory is that what about all of us who don't have the Rage Theater chip and install these drivers - how do they work okay for some and not for others then? - OR - perhaps this IS why you are having problems...
