View Full Version : Disk Repair Tool?

In doing my Symantecalectomy this year, one tool I really don't have a replacement for is Disk Doctor. Does anybody know any good tools out there (free or not) for disk analysis and repair/recovery? I'm not looking for a hardcore recovery tool, there are nice heavy pro tools for that....more of something along the lines of NDD which can check disk (better than chkdsk) and flag sectors/tracks as bad so the OS doesn't use them, etc...

Are there problems with these tools supporting solid state drives (like thumb drives), and if so, are there any that do support them?

I found this one with decent rating: http://www.rssoftlab.com/diskchecker.php

Anybody hear of it or use it?

www.grc.com just released spinrite6 with support for NTFS volumes. I think spinrite has a well deserved reputation for being one of the best programs of its type available. Worth checking out if you haven't heard of it. The NTFS support has been a long time coming.

Thanks Sodface....that looks like a great tool. Just what I'm looking for. A bit pricey, but if it is as good as it looks, then its worth it. I'll check into it tonight after work. :)

Ok, I purchased and I am trying Spinrite now (they don't give a "trial", just 100% guarantee). I wish I could just run it in Windows instead of from its own boot, but I guess that's how it gets full hardware access. It apparently tests VERY THOROUGH as by the times its done it will have taken almost 48 hours to test both hard drives.
